Re: Beautiful writing: My Girlfriend by Jeff Foster
The spiritual masters of old all didn't have wives or girlfriends. Fair enough, though how can we be sure about such things? For example, it is said that Socrates had a really awful wife. I have heard that once a young man asked Socrates if it was wise to marry. Socrates replied: “Yes. Go ahead and...

This is a great analogy.
Make friends with the guy -- or suffer endlessly.

Re: Identification
In infancy we are struggling to gain a sense of boundaries. This is me; that is not me.
When this struggle begins to bear fruit, we start to see where we are in this world.
Then the fascination begins: if I am this, I can also be that toy!

Re: Why does the pain body want more pain?
Can anyone offer some more insights into why I need to keep feeding the pain? Good question. Actually you don’t need to keep feeding the pain. It is in a state of unconsciousness that the pain body goes on replenishing itself. As to why it does this, I think we can say that all living entities want...

Re: How do I avoid the subtle traps?
For example, you are in an argument. Someone is being angry/unpleasant to you. You feel angry/hurt and defensive. You try and allow these feelings and accept them. BUT in reality, you just repress these feelings (or you end up reacting and e.g. shouting back) How do you do what is advised? Okay, he...

Re: Physical Reaction to Job Situation
Hi Tiziana and welcome to the board! Your situation reminds me of a similar reaction I once had in an office job. To resolve it, I used a technique that would probably not be considered very ‘spiritual’, but which was actually quite effective in handling unwanted physical reactions. What I did was I...

Re: Is self-esteem bad?
“Self-esteem is replaced by something deeper and more real”. This is the last line from the Eckhart link posted above by Eric. So much wisdom in so few words. The ups and downs of self-esteem ('The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune', as Shakespeare said) are replaced by the reality of the now.

Re: Another "pointer"
Here in Italy many advertisement slogans tend to be in English, because it’s considered to be real chic. The one that always strikes me is the Vodafone slogan: “Life is Now”.
It’s plastered all over the place, as well as being in TV ads.
That’s a cool reminder.

Re: I'm being Judgmental
I have a similar experience with my girlfriend. Every time I see she is clumsy, lacking in self-confidence, fearful, ignorant, etc…. I judge her. It’s just a mechanism that kicks in on its own. It is not that ‘I’ actually decide to do it. I have had a little bit of relief by using this technique: ac...
