Re: Why not much reference to Osho?

I feel compelled to mention that I watched a documentary once on cult leaders and a big portion was on Osho/Rajneesh and his ashram in Pune. While it was certainly one-sided, there were many videos that were disturbing. They had these "encounter groups" where people would beat each up other under so...

Re: Is Eckhart Tolle a re-incarnation of Meister Eckhart?

Here's one research finding (just the abstract), indicating that the "Big Five" personality traits remained more or less constant over 45 years. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6WM0-45FKTK1-R&_user=10&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_ur...

Steve Hagen's Buddhism Plain & Simple is pretty concise and grounded.

Re: Give up Concepts or Watch Them?

Just wanted to briefly say thanks to everyone for answering. Unfortunately or fortunately, my life situation is busy as a bee and I'll have to share my thoughts at a future moment.

P.S. Nice metaphor kiki.

Give up Concepts or Watch Them?

Across the web I've noticed some people have written that one must give up one's concepts in order to be present, or give up one's knowledge. I think that some concepts can be limiting and blind oneself from knowing oneself, but I've felt it isn't that concepts are binding, but identification with t...

Re: Call to Action

If I may play devil's advocate : Would a starving person care if they received food from the Dalai Lama or a convicted felon*? There's some interesting points on this thread, but I think there can be a rigid dichotomy set up where one is supposed to be concerned with self-improvement (or se...

Re: Film Idea Based on Eckhart's Awakening

I was about to comment about the ending as well. I felt there was the possibility that spiritual awakening would be associated with isolation or disconnectedness. People may learn more by seeing a model that isn't esoteric or ascetic.

Re: What does Tolle or You think of Astrology?

Hi innerhike, I'm not sure if your comment was a response to my remarks, but I feel I should clarify what I wrote a bit more. I didn’t intend for what I wrote to be dismissive of the whole interest in the cosmos. I agree that a dismissive attitude can lead one to miss out on a lot. I feel I can read...

Re: What does Tolle or You think of Astrology?

SighClone- Hi, Perhaps I should explain my one-liner! I've had a healthy skepticism of astrology, although I don't know much about it. There don't seem to be any legitimate laws or theories that are predictive of events or behavior. Although I should state that I haven't looked into it seriously and...

Re: A quality "no"

I took the "quality no" to mean self-assertion. This is a topic that actually greatly interests me regarding Tolle's work and others. I heard Robert M. Price on NPR once discussing his book on pop mysticism and he actually wasn't very critical of Tolle, but one of his critiques of New Age spirituali...

Here's the article on dualism from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy if you're interested. It contains some of the history as well.
