Re: Do you recomend any meditation for a complete beginner?
Another question. Can I add a mantra to the meditation you gave me? The mantra is So Hum, it is said to give many benefits but the principal point is that breath meditation is very boring, maybe the mantra can help me mantain the focus. Sure. I've used it myself in the past. The mind seems to need ...

Re: What happens in meditation?
Maintain a regular practice, twice daily if possible. The challenge early in one's practice is to be disciplined and not give up. This sort of practice will take time before you begin to notice the kind of things I outlined in my response to joe. If you put expectations upon your meditation sessions...

Re: What happens in meditation?
Following the breath is one type of meditation that uses the breath as a focus for attention, and serves as a means to redirect attention away from thought stream, body sensations and emotions. At the physical level, as attention gets repeatedly redirected onto the breath mind activity begins to qui...

Re: Do you recomend any meditation for a complete beginner?
I also recommend following the breath (I recommend eyes closed for beginners) with a slight variation in Webwanderer's recommendation. I'd begin by doing an eyes closed scan of the body, noticing and relaxing whatever part of your body is holding tension and then letting go of that tension. Then I'd...

Re: So just curious are the members of the forum Buddhist?
I was raised Roman Catholic, but left it more than 20 years ago, and have not followed any religion since, although I have an affinity to Buddhism.

Re: Having difficulty living in the present
Hi in the broader sense of the term living in the present, how do tolle followers put behind them a childhood of bullying? By starting with this moment; where else can you start? Life is always about this moment because that's where life is actually lived. Being consciously present dissolves though...

Re: Awakening and Quantum Phisics
It's an interesting question that has crossed my mind as well; even physicists don't understand what it is. Maybe they've bumped up to the borderline between the two, and that's what makes it so confounding and interesting for scientists. At that level atomic particles mysteriously bubble up from so...

Re: I'm Having Trouble With My Conversations
I was a little reluctant to put that last paragraph in for that very reason - it can easily become more about us, and a backdoor entrance to feed the ego. But it's more advanced course stuff. Until you can find the peace and stillness within yourself, the subtleties of the approach he describes will...

Re: I'm Having Trouble With My Conversations
I learned years ago not to overtly push people in any way towards meditation or awakening because most people aren't ready for it and you'll only turn them off. To be like a religious evangelist in promoting meditation and awakening can be a huge turn off, so be careful. I learned that the hard way....

Nice report, ThatAwareness. "This" awareness recognizes "ThatAwareness" since it's the same awareness.
Andy, good insights.

Re: Having difficulty living in the present
If it's easier to put awareness in the body to be present then stick with that. Thought stream is so habitual you can't expect it to stop when you first begin to watch thoughts. It takes clock time to first notice the "gap" between thoughts. However, consciousness is still present, otherwise you wou...
