Re: Separation of Ego from Consciousness

Let me clarify the breathing thing. When I focus on my breathing, that intent/focus/control is coming from my mind/ego. Often when I am present for a moment (not intentionally) I just stop breathing. Then I notice I've stopped breathing, and ego comes back in and regains control. I want that breath ...

Separation of Ego from Consciousness

I can't feel much of a separation of ego from consciousness. I feel like my ego is my consciousness. My inner-monologue dictates what I am. When I drop ego, I drop control. I stop breathing. I can be present when I stop breathing; just let go of breath. But I can't keep that moment very long. I have...

How to You Observe Thought?

Hi, Thanks for the support from my last topic. I've found it easier to enter the moment since then. Once thing I'm still unsure of is the notion of observing thought. Whenever I try, I end up adding more thought. i seem to observe the thought with my ego, not my consciousness. I think I don't unders...

Re: How Do You Let Go?

The problem is I don't know how to let go. If it's a "problem", look to see how "hanging on" is maintained . What is hanging on? "Hanging on" is only accomplished by the ego, which is only a phantom, an illusion. So what are those things, those strategies which mind/ego uses to create and then hang...

Re: How Do You Let Go?

Who is the one who wants to let go? Can you feel "it" telling stories that you are not quite there yet? There is witness who sees this happening. Don't believe the stories that your mind makes up. Only listen and feel them when they arise. You are not lost, your mind only wants attention ;) I feel ...

Re: How Do You Let Go?

I've come to realize I"m driven by the quest. I must know the answer, and I must learn more. Do you seek answers, or understanding? Consider where, and with what, you are seeking. So long as you seek definitive, logical knowledge by efforts of analytical mind in a world of books and discussion, the...

How Do You Let Go?

I've come to realize I"m driven by the quest. I must know the answer, and I must learn more. There's always something more. I never get to it, because there's always more. I know I need to just let go, and my awakening will happen. The problem is I don't know how to let go. I can't just let it be. I...

Re: Drugs and spiritual experiences

Drugs, and other addictive substances (alcohol, food, television, etc.) get used as a means to block out your feelings/emotions. It's saying, "I don't fully accept myself in this present moment, so I will go somewhere else." Feelings can be scary or uncomfortable (or almost undetectable in my case)....

Re: How to cry

So, my response, for what it's worth, is, do you think it's possible that a strong fear, as a reaction to confusion or insecurity, gave rise to that decision not to cry? Is it possible that you saw someone's weakness while they were crying, you identified very negatively with that crying, and decid...

Re: Repressing emotions

I'm also working on this at the moment. I'm reading "Emotional Clearing" by John Ruskin. It's very good so far, and is in alignment with allot of what E.T. teaches. Has anyone read this?

My Mind the Explainer

I am afflicted by my mind. I have a constant inner monologue. The voice I hear does nothing but explain. Everything/everyone has an explanation. I conclude "This is so"; my mind goes on "This happened because of this, or maybe this, which is another example of that." or "This is [a quality: good/bad...

It's interesting that this has been brought up now. I have recently been becoming aware that I cannot cry. I made a conscious decision when I was 10, and haven't really cried since. It didn't seem like it solved anything, and I never saw other guys do it. Since then, I've made a habit of denying sad...

Discomfort and Physical Pain

One thing that I'm still not sure how to deal with is physical discomfort and pain. What is the benefit of staying present when you're in extreme agony, have a stomach ache, or chopped off you finger? When I'm in a really unpleasant state, all I want to do is distract myself. How do you deal with th...
