Re: Awakening

Or using thoughts to build a whole new spiritual self and unconsciously avoiding emotions that are believed to be detrimental to that self. It's suble, but the ego can slip in through the back door in this way. I think it's what some term spiritual bypassing? Building a 'whole new spiritual self,' ...

Re: Precognition

Great post! Synchronicity...it's everywhere. We (including me) often fail to see it.

Re: Awakening

Thanks, Alicia! You mention "the witness" a couple of times, recalling my recent reading of Ram Dass' 2013 book "Polishing the Mirror." He talks about the witness at length in there, and it's re-affirming to hear another person speak of it. I think recognizing and, for a while, identifying with "the...

Re: The Age of Awakening

Welcome Alicia - In my opinion, any teacher who does not, early in his or her lecture or book, clarify that the real teacher is within the student, and not standing on the podium is a fraud. Authentic teachers constantly send students back into themselves, on an "inner hike" if you will. Constant re...

We are an independent forum and cannot comment on policies on the ET website - you will have to get clarification from them.

Re: NDE, Dying, Nonduality--Ted Talk

Great links, thanks all. Jac O'Keeffe spoke about the non-physical spirit world at the last SAND conference, also. Nanci Danison is also a favorite of mine on this topic - she has written 5 books - here is a link to a short concise interview:

Re: Tolle Criticism

Lovely comments, PureLand. You have kind of copied my style by quoting other teachers to make a point, rather than simple echoes. All that said, one could expand on your comments and say something like "living in bliss, there is no criticism of anything." But, of course we know that ET was critical ...

Re: Why no sublime sense of Depth and Being?

Jonski - Can anyone please help me to understand why I'm not at all sensing in any way the incredible ocean of 'Being', loaded with depth, and significance, and my deeper identity outside of 'Form'? When you are in this witnessing state that is kind of boring or meaningless to you, try one of ETs "i...

Re: Why no sublime sense of Depth and Being?

Thanks Pureland and Turiya! In 2007, ET was on a radio program with Oprah and made the following statement that brought me up short: "You are the present moment." This is essentially his message in Pureland's link. It's pretty scary, of course..."I'm not 'Andy'...I'm "the present moment???" What is ...

Re: Awake! Handbook of Awkakening (free ebook) - Kim Katami

Thus the best approach, as I see it, is to find a way to highlight our own self-based reactions, looking into the samsaric mind while being grounded in a gradually deepened experience of the natural state. That way we avoid spiritual bypassing while deconstructing the whole selfing-mechanism until ...

Re: Tolle Criticism

It’s been so long since I read PON that I tend to forget how preachy it was. Even compared to ANE. In 1999, there were few modern nondual writers working. Welwood’s “Toward a Psychology of Awakening” was just released in 1999, too. And that watershed has been breached many times since. Like all of u...

Re: Tolle Criticism

Certainly the path of awakening can be challenging. Middleman's comments are valid (welcome, by the way.) ET's exhortation to "just be present" isn't really enough to deal with some of life's challenges moment-to-moment. It is important to remember that he had the luxury of sitting on a park bench f...

"Doership" can be a sticking point for some traditions. Who is it that experiences the 13 bhumis? Who is it that meditates? Who is it that eats? If the "little me" self is dissolved, who does anything?
