Re: please explain the teachings

Hope is about the future. All you ever have is this very moment, so learning to be fully present with whatever arises in each moment keeps you focused on reality and not an imagined future contingent upon the hopes of the ego. Awakening always happens "now", it can never happen any other way becaus...

Re: how to stop chronic worry?

Yes, you have had stressful and difficult experiences. Your choice to share those experiences with a community of people maintaining presence is a wise decision. It is the beginning. You cannot choose to stop worrying. You can only bring worry into the presence. Worry is like a shadow and presence ...

Re: dilemma: spiritual crisis or clinical problem?

RalphWaldo, Greetings! Meaname and Sighclone who have responded before me have training in this line of work and so I would consider their responses very carefully. I myself have no training in this. I can only share based on personal experience. If you are willing to be patient and not over-react ...

Re: dilemma: spiritual crisis or clinical problem?

RW, This is good advise given by Andy. Your experience of Generalized Anxiety Disorder and panic attacks stimulates your fight or flight response and a cascade of neurochemicals enhance the negative feelings associated, these in turn perpetuate the experience in a sort of feedback loop that escalat...

Re: dilemma: spiritual crisis or clinical problem?

Although this is a site which addresses spiritual solutions, and I have some thoughts there, I' going to recommend the talk therapy/medication route as at least a short-term effort. My wife has been taking Paxil for some time is greatly relieved by that and has full capacities, as nearly as I and s...

Re: dilemma: spiritual crisis or clinical problem?

Oops, I didn't actually ask a question. Question is - anyone have similar experience and was it, in the end, a spiritual or clinical situation? Probably some of each but I guess I am searching for root cause & path.

Thx,
RW

dilemma: spiritual crisis or clinical problem?

Hi, I'm new here and just recently started a thread, but wanted to start another (at the risk of pushing my luck) on something a bit different... I've been experiencing moderately severe anxiety for the past several months, worse the past 3 months. My mother died 1 year ago and I found her body in h...

Re: how to stop chronic worry?

Hi as.it.is, Thanks for the info. I've actually read one of John Sarno's books about TMS, so I know all about it and I think about the general principle behind it whenever I feel unexplained pain in my body. I've not had any sudden epiphanies with this stuff but I do think it helped me get rid of so...

Re: how to stop chronic worry?

I would suggest noticing how you referred to stopping and observing as "success". Since there's no failure here, success is also non-existent. Mind-borne division only :-) I guess "stopping" is not the best word, but what I meant was pausing and witnessing the emotion or sensation, rather than just...

Re: how to stop chronic worry?

Welcome to the board, RalphWaldo. You've gotten some good responses from some great people, but your own words are most meaningful because they arise out of your own experience. Reread them, for they are your answer: Return to presence again and again and you'll discover worry melts away. I am spea...

Re: how to stop chronic worry?

Sincere thanks all, for the thoughtful replies. Sometimes just having someone be able to relate to your experience makes a difference. Onceler – You're right, it is a big deal to lose a parent. And I understand what you say about seeing this as an opportunity. I fully acknowledge and even appreciate...

how to stop chronic worry?

Hi, First post here. Have been reading this forum for a few weeks and have found a lot of helpful and insightful stuff. I recently read Practicing the Power of Now (actually the audiobook) and I'm going through it a second time. This was my intro to ET and I may read PON and/or NE eventually. Also h...
