Re: How do I not care about what others think?

this is something i struggle with. I found that as long as you're in the thinking realm, you will always care what other people think. The only true solution is that which Tolle points to. Agree with peleke4 here - as long as you are identified with thought these thoughts can cause you to suffer. S...

Re: So is it all a game?

I don't know if there is a point as such. But ET and others talk about consciousness becoming aware of itself through us - maybe that's it? :)

Re: Loss of the thirst for knowledge?

Funnily enough, this was one of the first things that I dropped after reading The Power of Now for the first time, i.e. my desire to consume information, news, politics etc. I read enough now that I have a basic understanding of what's going on in the world (and sometimes I don't!) - but if I was 'e...

Re: Health and the body

The only difficulty is that you ended up on the wrong planet if you don't want to be prone to sickness and imperfection. This makes me laugh every time I read it - very true :D I've actually felt much more at peace with everything (including my body and 'health issues') over the past few days (a re...

Re: Health and the body

Thanks 18andlife Yes, I'd say there's definitely an element of future in there. I think the idea of being imperfect and limited in some way (even though I know logically no one is perfect) has a strong hold on me. Guess I am very much identified with the body - I am my body rather than I have a body...

Health and the body

Hi all One issue I struggle with enormously is the fear of 'illness' and the idea that I might be limited by my own body scares the hell out of me - therefore I am constantly trying to protect my body from harm and seem to have little faith in it to be robust and strong. Over the past 10 years I hav...

Re: The wonderful world of work

Thanks rontant. Yes, I am in the process of simplifying my life and life style - just wish I could do it sooner :) I definitely am less ambitious than I used to be - and I am happy with that. But I'm also very creative and enjoy creating new businesses/helping other people with theirs - what I don't...

The wonderful world of work

Hi guys I find myself in an interesting work position of late. I am a contractor in the retail sector. Hours can be long, pressure is at times immense and senior management/directors are consistently very unconscious and ego-driven. It's not uncommon for a lot of stress-related illness amongst co-wo...

Re: when body identification is so darn persistent?

Hi Carolyn I too have 'suffered' with a very strong 'obsession' with my external appearance - for me it's been my nose!! :) This is in itself funny as I guess the ego will pick any body part, it doesn't matter which! Both Jason and Andy posted helpful pointers that I should reflect on my innner self...

Re: Need suggestions on a few things.

2) Does working out make a big difference for you? . Re: working out, Eckhart talks about how people do really extreme sports and he suggests that this is because it creates silence. You have to be so focused on what you are doing there is no room for all the normal rubbish of what you look like, w...

Re: Few "?"'s

maybe in regards to silence, silence is there when noise is not. Hi Mop999 I'm new to all this!! But I think lanroh's point above is the key point. You can't actively create silence. But if you become the watcher/observer of your thoughts rather than become identified with them then the 'noise' wil...

Re: Obsession with external appearance/cosmetic surgery!

Thank you all for your kind words. They really mean a lot to me. I'm definitely still at a point where I become very quickly identified with my repetitive thoughts - and your comments help me to see beyond these negative thought processes. In fact I've decided that everytime I start to dwell on this...

Obsession with external appearance/cosmetic surgery!

Hi all I'm new to the forum here. I've recenly read TPON and A New Earth and both resonated with me in a big way. Like a lot of people I feel I've been searching for something and I am 'aware' that if I can become present as much as possible many of the issues that I struggle with will fall away. HO...
