Re: Comparing Ideologies

I’ve been reading about Buddhism lately. Same thing. People have taken the pure teachings and added them their own belief systems which in affect waters down the teachings of Buddha. My not surprised… just disappointed.

Re: staying mindful through the day

Hi Joe, I used to feel the same way. If only I could go somewhere and live without the pressures and triggers that draw us back to our ego. But then I would have to wear a robe... and I'm not robe material... So instead I looked at the process differently. I thought what if I can try to make a littl...

Re: staying mindful through the day

I have an office and can close the door for a couple of minutes which is great. Tolle suggested having small things that when you look at make you feel better. I have pictures that have special meaning for me close by and when I need to regroup I take a minute, lok at the pictures and let myself get...

Re: Comparing Ideologies

Thank you Tod and WW. I see what you are saying. However is it not true that "truth" is limited if you tie it to another belief and remain dogmatic. For instance, if you say that here is where you can can enlighenment but of course you must first belive in God or evolution or ______________? It is a...

Comparing Ideologies

I'd like some feedback... I have been comparing various ideologies and most recently have been looking at Tolle's teachings and Buddism, and I see a common thread surrounded by 100's of tiny differences. I come from a very strong christian-based background then went through a personal crisis, (also ...

Re: Tolle video

I appreciate your coments Intel and as for "enlightenment", there seems to be many thoughts about what that is. When we apply the teachings of non-resistance and living in the NOW, it does change the way we conduct ourselves. The Bible refers to it as "putting on the new personality". Many people ch...

Re: Tolle video

I believe enlightenment does change you. One becomes calmer to the point of never getting angry. You can still feel pasionate about something but without judgement or a pushing of your opinion. I agree it does sound odd at first but when you see it practiced, it is hard to argue against. I used to b...

Re: Bliss Biz?

I believe that bliss is the absense of pain. Of course words are only pointers so we should try not to get stumbled over one or two words. I think of bliss or peace like I think of heat and cold. There is no such thing as 'cold' just the absense of heat. When we heat something up on the stove, we ad...

Re: Silly thought came to mind about preferring unconsciousness

It is easy to trick ourselves into thinking that if we could only have what another has, then we would be happy. So we may see someone that is wealthy and think that they must be happy and we would be too if we had what they have. It may not be money, it could be a happy marraige, a great job, child...

Re: Hi from Canada

I think about what I'm writing too carefully. I wonder if this best reflects me and conversely others. Perhaps I'm just not used to this. I have enjoyed reading some of the posts.

Hi from Canada

Hello all! I'm new to the board and I don't feel that comfortable communicating this way but I'm seeking like-minded people and perhaps i may find them here. I enjoyed Tolle's book 'New Earth' and it has changed the way I interact with others. It has certainly helped me to live in the now and stop w...
