Re: Is it God?

So what you are saying is that one can only rely on their experience and judgment. But how does one know that one is seeing things clearly without having something as a guide? If Jesus has been important for two thousand years, is that a mass illusion? Is it not more reliable to place your anchor on...

Re: Is it God?

If that were true, wouldn't any number of ancient teachers do? Why the focus on this particular figure?

Re: Is it God?

I guess what I'm getting at is the importance that Christianity places on the person of Jesus. He must be accounted for as more than just another teacher. He is a central spiritual force, so we need to know where he fits in. This is a question I've been struggling with.

Re: Is it God?

What you say is true, but obviously Jesus is important and so ignoring why misses a lot.

Is it God?

So I was listening to Rupert Spira talk about enlightenment and something dawned on me. For those of us who feel the presence of God in our lives, when we meditate or sit quietly in some other way and ask "who am I?", that sense of being that we have that is underneath thoughts, feelings and things ...

Re: Role of the mind

On that third point, I don't think you are answering the question. Evolutionary psychology and other human sciences are thought to exist outside human consciousness as objective reality. So those who subscribe to these sciences and their theories of the human condition use them rather than practice ...

Re: Role of the mind

Here's a good video where Rupert Spira talks about the Mind and it's essential nature (i.e. Awareness... or the "Spiritual Dimension" if you want to call it that): https://youtu.be/Qgcfa0LFKXc?t=210 (I chose to start the video at 3:30 to "cut to the chase") :D Great video- thanks! So what he is say...

Re: Role of the mind

My point is that atheists are stuck in the mind. They can't recognize the spiritual dimension in their lives because they try to use reason to understand it.

Re: Role of the mind

I guess what I'm getting at is that an atheist can claim that the desire to be present or mindful so that one can live more fully is something that we are biologically driven to do. That somehow relates to science and to how the mind works. If spirituality is getting past the mind, what is the argum...

Role of the mind

I recently heard a point of view that the spiritual dimension is part of the mind. What is the argument that spirituality is something outside the mind?

Maintaining awareness throughout the day

I have been trying to follow my breath and have a question: do you stop doing that when you are thinking about something or responding to something external? Are you supposed to "multi-task" at that point?

I'm not too worried about being pushed; they are very patient! :)

I'm just wondering what the counterargument to choosing baptism as an adult would be. Is it simply that even if baptism was practiced by Jesus, that doesn't make it necessary to be "saved"?
