Re: Do people really suffer?

Thanks goldenbirdies - I have Byron Katie to thank for this sentiment! I posted it to remind myself as well as hoping it might help others. So much of my thoughts are about wanting life to be different than it is - SO stressful....!

There is no suffering....unless you think things should be different than they are.

Re: Bad Day...

Hi jackc Good post and good replies! Just wanted to pick up on what Ralph said In truth, all you truly have is this moment and it's appearing as having a bad day - very true!!! i.e. the 'bad' day is just a series of 'bad' moments throughout the day which are probably mixed with 'good' moments too bu...

Re: procrastination getting in the way

In my opinion, it is not *procrastination* but that the mind loves to fill up every waking moment with 'something', thoughts rush in and take over - if these thoughts are allowed to drift by instead of becoming 'front page news'.....I find this very hard myself, I get caught up in my thoughts all th...

Re: Am I doing what I am supposed to be doing?

You are always doing what you are supposed to be doing :) otherwise you would be doing something else..... it is not always obvious why things turn out like they do but there you go.

Re: meaning of life and fullfilment

This is (roughly speaking) some of what Eckhart says. A life's 'inner' purpose can be to be deeply in the moment, to accept what is, to enjoy whatever is happening right now and not to be attached to the outcome/results. To inhabit your body as much as possible. To savour every experience, using all...

Re: college

That made me chuckle Enigma!! You are right, when you see life for what it is, the suffering drops away automatically. It's likely that you're continually making changes that improve the quality of your life, and while none of them have brought permanent happiness, every change has brought temporary...

Re: college

Thanks guys - I need reminding when I am at work, scattered and stressed that what is happening 'should' be happening because it is and i need to 'go' with it....stop resisting what a waste of energy thinking what you 'should' be doing, what you 'could' be doing. Also when the moment is all that the...

Re: college

Great advice from karmarider, kiki, Sighclone, etc As kiki says ]...enjoy the dream without becoming lost inside it Very true - reminds me of Byron Katie's advice to accept reality, to have no resistance to what happens, to go with the flow, therefore you are not using up energy in resisting what ha...

Re: The art of looking without attaching concepts

Yes, This follows on from my above post. To quote Byron Katie "Who would you be without your story" i.e. looking at yourself without concepts and mind-created stories about life. When you look at something ask "What would it be without its story?", see the essence behind it - everything is life mani...

Re: The art of looking without attaching concepts

Hi Yes I would start by perhaps when you look at something, your mind might register what it is e.g. 'table', just think it is a 'label' and look past that. Think of them as just a name (same as our names, we are much more than that). Probably not to relate to things superficially but to see beyond ...

Re: The art of doing nothing and mundane thoughts

Sighclone wrote Can you touch your nose? Then you are doing something. Or maybe not. Maybe for enlightened people the passive voice is correct..."My nose is being touched." This reminds me of Byron Katie she says in one of her books she is being 'breathed'! Tod - interesting post although my simple ...

Re: Please choose for me..

Alan, I would perhaps take this time to get to know yourself who you really are - lots of sitting and observing the world and getting to know your self, as once life takes over it is harder but possible. You could go on retreat but you can do this by yourself without the cost, unless you want to cha...
