Re: Throwing stuff out...

Let's say you throw the stuff out and find that very liberating - a new self image might arise that says - I'm not attached to meaningless junk anymore, I have transcended that level. That's all very good ... for you ... but what about people you know that are still attached to junk? There will sti...

Re: Throwing stuff out...

For me it was a great exercise for really noticing the attachment to small things and memories. As these things accumulate they end up owning YOU! nili, I agree whole-heartedly with everything you said- especially the statement above. This is the reason I want to get rid of a lot of stuff...I feel ...

Re: Throwing stuff out...

Don't throw away the stuff that you still care about - your ego will just transform into something else. You can throw it away when you become aware/present enough to not care about it. It's funny, once I read this I realized that I really don't care about this stuff. Only my ego glinging is stopin...

Throwing stuff out...

Hey everyone, I've been de-cluttering the one room in my house where I keep most of my accumulated things. I really want to get rid of a lot of this stuff, but am a little afraid. A lot of the stuff is momentos from my school days...kinda a story about me. The funny thing is I know that it's just my...

Re: Antidepressants

So if being on antidepressants is much different than being without them, what you condition yourself to be like while on antidepressants (being present) may not carry over, and you may have to retrain yourself. Just a possibility to watch out for :) That's a good point!...I will definitly keep tha...

Re: Antidepressants

Fish oil can be helpful, there are small but hopeful studies on this. Also, exercise can be very beneficial. I manage my depression with these things and lots of now awareness. It's dark in my part of the world now, and I feel the creep and pull of the "black dog". I avoid the "whites" in the diet;...

Re: Antidepressants

David Burns' book "Feeling Good" outlines a cognitive therapy approach, which I found very helful a few years back. I think I'll go to the library tomorrow and check it out. One question though...I looked on Amazon.com to see what the book looked like and I found two similar books. I was just wonde...

Re: Greetings from sunny Florida!

It's great spiritual practice :) I absolutely agree. So it's funny...in a way, I should be extremely grateful for him, just the way he is. This realization is really helping me understand why ET says practicing gratitude is important...like, you should be grateful for everything the universe puts i...

Re: social anxiety question

I just got done reading the reply post where you asked "what would Eckhart say?" This is just for fun, but in my mind, I imagine he might say something like this: [Be "the watcher" and look into the fear you feel. If you are afraid of other's judgement, just think about how illusory it is...is anyon...

Re: social anxiety question

I know how you feel...it's like you were talking about me! It's soooo hard for me to stay present around other people, but if I'm taking a walk by myself, I'm the Dalai lama. Sometimes I feel like it's hopeless...I don't know if I'll ever be able to stay present around other people. It's like...

Greetings from sunny Florida!

Hello everyone, I'm joirye from Eglin AFB in Florida. I'm so happy to have found this forum....I crave discussing what I've learned in ET's books with like-minded people.
