Re: Who is your favorite spiritual teacher?

Aside from Eckhart, Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hahn have been instrumental in my life. I can't recommend them highly enough. In terms of meditation, Bhante G and Jon Kabat Zin both have written many wonderful books on the subject. Marianne Williamson's writings on TCIM are excellent. Elizabeth Less...

Thich Nhat Hahn and Pema Chodron

Amazing embodiments of presence/mindfulness/stillness/fill-in-your-own pointer here :). It would be hard for me to recommend one of their works over the others, however. Best to dig in and decide for yourself.

Peace,
Brooks

Re: Seeking tape recommendation

Hi Meg. I have listened and listened to "The Art of Presence", a 6-CD set from one of Eckhart's recent retreats. I adore this set and highly recommend it. It is on my iPod, along with all of Eckhart's webinar sessions with Oprah and several of Oprah's "Soul Series" interviews (e.g., Jon Kabat Zin, E...

Pema Chodron

She may already be on this list, but I didn't see anything about her books. She and Eckhart have been the biggest influences in my spiritual awakening over the last several years. And you don't need to be Buddhist to find inspiration and wisdom from her books and talks. You might try listening to he...

Re: How do you deal with pent up resentment and negative feeling

Hey, Andy, Pema Chodron wrote a great article a while back on mindfulness and talked about the "three conscious breaths" routine. Sounds very much like what you have adopted in your daily life. I agree with you. It makes all the difference in the world when I can remember to do it. And I usually rem...

Re: Romantic Relationship: Surrendering to What Is

Oops...forgot to say that over the years of spiritual practice in romantic relationships, I have highlighted and underlined almost every line in Eckhart's chapter on relationships in PON and also Marianne Williamson's chapter on relationships in "A Return to Love." Really helpful stuff!

Re: Romantic Relationship: Surrendering to What Is

Hi Joseph. You might also remind yourself that acceptance does not necessarily mean *liking* something. Most folks do not want to be rejected by another person (yay! rejection! awesome! :) . Accepting, to me, simply means being honest with yourself that this is what has happened (as opposed to secre...

Re: Humour

Humor seems to be a portal into the Now for me. It's just very difficult for me to really laugh at something (comedy routine, partner's jokes, movie, whatever...) and not be fully present. Could it be as simple as that?

Peace...

Re: Is fear a present feeling?

Great topic...Eckhart talks about fear in a number of ways in both ANE and PON. His discussion of fear as too much focus on the future (as opposed to present moment) has been helpful for me, as has his encouragement to observe the fear rather than fight or resist it. If I can remind myself that the ...

" All I can do is follow my own version of happiness. The more selfishly and clearly I follow my own version of happiness, the less I hurt others. You see it is not selfish to want to do well in this world, all beings are filled with this impulse but few act on it with complete congruence at all lev...

helpful resources for educators???

Hi all. I noticed several people (e.g., innerhike) have as their outer purpose classroom teaching of some type. I teach at the college level. I am very interested in things you have read that have addressed mindfulness or consciousness or presence...in the classroom. I guess I am looking for resourc...
