Perhaps you may want to watch this brief video for the take of a Zen Master on the subject:

Eckhart talk
Dear all,
I've just listened to Eckhart's latest talk on Eckhart Tolle TV, entitled 'To Think or Not to Think' and it is fabulous.
http://www.eckharttolletv.com/
I heartily recommend it to all. (You have to subscribe to the site, but it's worth it).
Love,
Dev

Re: Inquiry vs. the Now
I think they are two bases of the same triangle. On one base, you have inquiry; on the other side, you have the Now. They are both facets of essential awareness, and are crucial in our awakening. One is the more 'personal' side, where 'you' are inquiring; the other is the impersonal, non-dual awaren...

Re: Free will is an illusion?
I must confess I haven't perused the entirety of the posts on this thread, but the title intrigues me. My offering comes from a mind-blowing revelation given to me by Genpo Roshi while I was listening to him in Ameland (and the following is paraphrase). If you imagine a triangle, (an equilateral tri...

Jesus quote
Dear all, Just been listening to a talk from http://bigmind.org/zen-eye/video-index in which Genpo Roshi modified a quote from Jesus in quite a stunning way: "Be unto others as you would have them be unto you". I think that is so fantastic it is practically heart-stopping. He says it's not about the...

Re: Milton's Secret
Well, you know that's not true. As Genpo Roshi would say (a great Zen master) there is no point practising if you don't at least make an effort to carry it into the world. Now I'm not saying (I was being slightly facetious) that Eckhart doesn't embody his awareness. He clearly does (or seems to) in ...

Milton's Secret
Dear all, Just previewed this book on Amazon and on about the fourth page, there's a mistake! It is 'a recess', and should read 'at recess'. I am an editor, true, but I thought Eckart would have gone through this and checked with his eagle-eyed awareness! (or does that say something about his awaren...

Re: How to Stay Present
I prefer Genpo Roshi's conception, which is compare the mind to a gland and see the mind as a gland secreting thoughts. Then just sit and let it do its job.

It is, but see my post on Genpo Roshi on Eckhart Tolle. It should come up in the search.

Re: Truth
Well, don't forget that 'meditation' in our contemporary culture doesn't carry the sense it should do - it means more like rumination, contemplation, and it certainly didn't mean anything esoteric in the 17th Century!
Sorry to spoil the party, but had to!

Re: Manifesting from Pure Awareness
Firstly, before I answer your questions, Andy, let me say your English is quite poor on this one (unusual for you). 1) Well, this depends on something called Right Intention, the second step on the eightfold path. There is a very good seminar on it at http://www.bigmind.org - click on Zen Eye and th...
