Re: What about actual, physical problems?

ET said that an injury or illness in the now - in the absence of the mind's construction of 'past' and 'future' - ceases to be a 'problem' and is just an experience of pain, discomfort or disability and surrendering to this experience is a door to enlightenment - enlightenment by 'way of the cross'....

Re: Did you give up alcohol?

Yes - over four years ago. For me, alcohol was just another self-medication... continuing to arrest my development. I wanted to go beyond that so I gave up drinking (and drugs and cigarettes).

HI tricianc
You should listen to a few of ETs 'live' retreats. At times, all he does is laugh and chuckle :-)

Re: Tolle Criticism

And when questioned, the ego defends its insanity by clinging to the belief that awakening is difficult. I like that part of ETs message (along with many others). This is a great thread. I've found myself wondering why ET charges for Echart Tolle TV? Does he want that money? Does he need it? What w...

Re: Movies Concerning Awakening

I hated 'What the bleep...' and 'The Secret'. I there's something about them that puts me off, like something poisonous. I can't define it more than that. I just avoid. On the other hand, I think 'Groundhog Day' is a great spiritual film.. as is 'The Truman Show. I was really surprised by 'Avatar'. ...

Re: The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

The 4 agreements 'stuck' to me in their simplest form. I couldn't get too excited about most of the rest of the words in the book though. Not sure why but I think it was partly that I just didn't relate to the Toltec historic stuff. Maybe it's that because I'm not connected to that culture, the ener...

Re: Eckhart Bashing - Bring It On

If you could take your understanding (however perfect or imperfect it is) and share it with a wider world, would you? It seems to me that ET is using the things that are available to him to do what he wants to do. If Oprah wanted me to come talk, would I? Yes, probably. All I'd care about would be m...

Re: Why does smoking marijuana open up our senses so fully?

"Why does smoking marijuan open up our senses so fully?" You can only ask that for yourself, not us. When I used marijuana, I also thought it opened up my senses. Now, looking back, I see that for me it was really just a selfish, infantile place that I retreated to. I chuckle when I remember how tir...

Re: If humanity were to actually experience the shift...

The way I look at it, when I do things for their own sake in the moment, the future takes care of itself. I can get caught up in that 'isn't planning the future not being present' thing. When I do, I come back to being present (as much as I'm able). I think my own shift in consciousness (such as it ...

Re: Is Eckhart FULLY realized?

Fascinating reading this whole thread. I love that last post, though, Lucy. I think you just summed up what I've been feeling throughout, thank you -and thank you all. I'm really looking forward to listening to some of these other teachers that I have no experience of. When I think of ET, I don't wo...

Re: John Lennon

I've no idea if he was enlightened or not 8) and we'll never know. Your question makes me think about the question itself: how do I know anyone is enlightened? Do I think ET is? Yes. What makes me think that? Is it because I respond to everything he says with a "Yes!"? Does that make him enlightened...

Re: Hello, Sam from Tavistock, England just joined

mukau - it's my business name, and it stands for 'moo cow' (as in the Longman's English dictionary). I doesn't have any clever spiritual meaning... except that 'mu' is supposed (in Zen) to be the correct answer to a question that is based on flawed assumptions; i.e. when 'yes' and 'no' are inadequat...

Re: How did you find the forum?

I think I typed something like "Eckhart Tolle discussion forum" in Google (it was DAYS ago! i can't remember). I came looking for it because I've being working on my awareness and presence for a while, have read and listened to a lot of ET and wanted to be around people who also loved what he teaches.
