Re: Drastic awaking- please help
Hi, Samuel: You have experienced what is called a "Spiritual Emergency." If you search on that term, you'll get a lot more information. In a nutshell, you've had a spiritual realization that threatens the ego, and the ego doesn't know what to do with it, leading to confusion. You are also dealing wi...

Re: Bhakti/Devotion
Trails, something very similar happened to me about 30 years ago and resulted in a complete religious conversion. I was sitting in Zen meditation and kept having a deep unspoken sense of gratitude, wonder, and desire to worship...something. I didn't know what but just followed it. Over a few months ...

Re: Why so many spiritual emergencies
Thanks for the many wise and wonderful responses (and welcomes back). Seems like you all hit it on the head from various perspectives. Father Richard Rohr in Falling Upward says you first have to have a well-formed ego before you can let it go. I was testing that notion, which I believed to be true,...

Why so many spiritual emergencies
I haven't been on this forum for quite a long time, but I was thinking about it this morning. Specifically, I have noticed over the years that many questions submitted to the forum have to do with spiritual emergencies--that is, psychological problems or disturbances arising from spiritual practice....

Re: How can I know when I'm Present?
The easy answer is where else can you be except present? But I know you're not looking for that answer. Here's a more down to earth answer: It's easy to think too much, even about being present. You're probably noticing your thoughts and thinking you're not present. Then you come back to being prese...

Re: Spiritual enlightenment - Experience
Wonderful, Tomek! Wonderful! Yes, many of us here have had this experience. Enjoy! Don't worry if it changes with time. Just enjoy whatever is! Oh, and yes about the love. My experience is that the universe IS love, powered by love, filled with love in every atom. I imagine that is what you are seei...

Andy, I affirm your Yes! Freke's idea of both/and rather than either/or fits what I have experienced too. I have not found anyone else until now willing to say so. I experience both awakening and little me. If you speak another language, it's like choosing which language you wish to speak at the mom...

Re: Consciousness: Chicken or Egg ?
RachMiel, did you ever run out of questions (and answers)? What did it feel like? Try it! I'm interested in "the answer."

My head hurts. Endless questions. Get back to me when your mind runs out of questions and answers and tell me what you experience then. Meanwhile, I like number 5. It made me laugh!

Some very interesting intellectual answers. I say again, what is awakening?

Nice, Andy! This really resonates for me--reality is not just separateness or oneness--it's BOTH! It all depends on how you choose to think at the moment. Like parallax, we can choose different views.

What is "awakening"?
What is that you seek? Why seek anything?

Re: How do I "face" inner negativity?
What you are trying to do is to let go of a thought. It takes practice, just like any other skill. Each time the thought comes, say to yourself, "I decided not to invest my energy in thinking about that." Then watch the thought leave and other thoughts take its place, or maybe a moment of quiet take...

Re: The seducive ego
Having been a fundamentalist and now an "enlightened" Christian, I share your belief, Mariposa, that the Devil is just a mythical projection of our own darkness onto an external entity. Even the ego, when it's made to be a personification of evil control, is just a projection. I don't look to blame ...

Re: grief and staying present
So sorry that you have lost your friend, Christy. I recently went through grief at the loss of a family member and found that nothing makes the feeling go away, but you can watch it and just feel it like any other thought or emotion. Over time the grief will fade. Go easy on yourself during this tim...
