Navy seal awareness training

Something a bit different, sort of a zen samurai warrior approach. The articles are like a short Navy SEAL guide to mental fortitude training, but I was surprised at the topics they covered. It's like the military trying to translate the PoN into a few short articles. The most recent article just ca...

Re: Thinking as a Portal

Thanks for the replies! They reminded me of this video of Eckhart talking about how focused intensity and non-focused awareness can be brought together. I'm not sure how to explain it but I feel that I understand better now how they relate, thanks to your replies and watching the video again :D http...

Re: Thinking as a Portal

Hi Andy nice post! Quick question :) Does this relate to the way we can enter a state of "flow" during a creative or problem solving task? I'm a computer engineer and sometimes when I'm programming and listening to music the entire day goes by in a flash because my thoughts were 100% engaged in the ...

Re: What do babies see?

This poem captures the seeing/forgetting that happens as children grow into adults pretty well... it's a bit long though. :)

Re: A Cognative Dissonance

I would say the Now is always moving and changing, it's like an energy wave or the pulse of the universe... you can only accept and ride along with it, it's not something you can pin down. The illusion of time is created only when we leave the Now via our thinking and get stuck in either the past or...

Re: Believing our Thoughts

For me it seems the two states of mind seem to become one through focused action... when I let my egoic mind engage in some activity but at the same time sort of ride the "now" wave by focusing completely on the task and also keeping awareness of my body and the fact that I have let my egoic mind en...

Re: Treating words as signposts

I'm a few years out of college with an engineering degree and I definitely had the same problem with signposts. Engineers learn a thought process that always wants to quantify and conceptualize everything. I still see it at work with the difficulty engineers have accepting abstract concepts... they ...

Re: Journalig for Presence

Writing has helped me to define my own thought processes, reactive patterns, ect. and sometimes everything becomes very simple and clear when you write it down, as compared to having the same random thoughts bouncing around in your head. It's almost a form of meditation for me actually... my mind is...

I asked the same question and got some very helpful answers (although the initial post is more of an essay than a question lol)

Re: How do drugs affect your presence?

Hi forgotaboutbre, That sounds exactly like what happened... you explained it better that I was able to :) One thought to add... I think when I experienced the new dreamlike state it enabled me to compare that to the typical ego dreamlike state, and by doing so I realized on some deep level that nei...

Re: How do drugs affect your presence?

For me drugs have helped in some ways... but you have to be very careful not to "fall below thinking" and get stuck in the experience. My first experience with mushrooms ripped my ego and identities to shreds for a couple hours and really made me question how I viewed the world. The experience seeme...

Re: Help me

I want my action to come from a deep place within me. Watch your thoughts to make sure you aren't falling into that "long term waiting" trap. Maybe taking focused action will bring you back in touch with being and also help your life situation at the same time. Sometimes the plan doesn't reveal it ...

Re: presence at work/meetings

Hi runstrails, I'm no zen master but I've been thinking about the same thing lately and thought I'd share... I try to be very present at least while listening to other people during meetings. That alone has been a huge help in staying alert and not being bored out of my mind. I just try to be like a...

Re: motivation

Try focusing on your breathing and inner-body while exercising. I used to hate running and thought of it as a chore, but then I learned to really focus on every sensation and muscle moving, every breath, the blood pumping through my body... and now running is one of my favorite ways to exercise, and...
