Re: Mental Illness and Letting Go of Ego

Great observations, Freespirit! In my experience, as you learn to let go of the ego, including all performance-based views of the self, anxieties and fears and so on tend to fade away. If you are not your ego, why would you care if it is praised or denigrated? Both are meaningless to the neutral ob...

Re: Mental Illness and Letting Go of Ego

Interesting questions. I am very interested in learning more about ACT and how it can help those with mental health problems. I have suffered from social anxiety and other problems for years and the core factor behind it for me has been poor self-esteem. How I see myself affects everything and I hav...

Re: Gratitude

I always used to struggle with Gratitude. I used to think it was about saying thank you to others or simply to myself. One day not so long ago I came back home from work earlier than my Mum and found myself locked out of the house. I had nothing to do except wait and so decided I would try to be pre...

My illusion of Enlightenment

When I stumbled upon Eckhart Tolle's 'Power of Now' 11 months ago I was excited and relieved to have found a way out of my suffering. Shortly after reading PON I had some beautiful moments of peace which seemed so so familiar. As my excitement grew I began to wander how long it would be before I 'wo...

Re: Attaching to experiences.

Thanks for all of your comments. I have been having some problems with understanding words like duality and non-duality and what someone means when they speak about unity and how suffering arises when we think we exist in and of ourselves. I want to understand but I put little effort in and expect h...

Attaching to experiences.

Every now and then I have an experience that I cannot find the words for. It isn't a profound experience, it isn't out of this world, it is of this world. It's such a natural experience. As soon as I have this experience, my mind attaches to it. 'This is Enlightnement' it screams, 'This is Awareness...

Re: Currently suffering

I have recently gone through a break up and it has been the hardest period of my life so far. Up until that point I had a lot of emotional pain and thought I could withstand anything but the pain of lost love is 100x what I expected. It took the break up for me to realise the world I was trapped in....

Re: first moments of not being ruled by thought. Questions

Thank you for your comment Freespirit. What you are describing is exactly what is happening. I am begging for another experience, trying everything I did yesterday to get it back. But I am so confused at the moment. What I felt yesteday was a feeling that I have never felt before, and that feeling ...

Re: first moments of not being ruled by thought. Questions

Hi guys! Last night I had my first moment of not being ruled by thought. It was such an enjoyable state. It all started by simply asking myself "Who am I?". I was driving, and I simply asked myself this question and just followed on from there. It ended up in me stating "I am a person who thinks <i...

Re: Hello from Wales

Darren - So your Mum was negative on the book, or at least its appearance. Is she part of the reason you have a low self-image? Or was her comment just a passing remark. It was, to my very limited knowledge, a negative remark about a self-help book that might be of value to you. Another comment, fr...

Re: Hello from Wales

Andy/Sighclone I managed to get hold of a second hand copy of the book 'Able and Equal' from Amazon. It arrived in a not so good condition and my Mum said she wouldn't pay 50p on a car boot sale for it. I have read about 20 pages and this battered old book has been one of the best reads on self este...
