Re: Too aware to sleep!

Yes, I agree with Andy completely. I think spiritual practice will get you there eventually, but it may be a long path. See what options your doctor can offer and continue your meditation practices around this. What I was referring to earlier is for the advanced mediator. It is an almost effortless ...

Re: Too aware to sleep!

I think I know exactly what you are referring too. About two weeks ago I was going through the same thing. It was the worst in the morning, I would feel it in the morning and it was an almost painful feeling. It was like I had all this energy bottled up and I just wanted to sleep. I still haven't fi...

Re: Feeling the inner being

Yes, these areas are more difficult to access because of their very nature. As humans we explore our environment with our hands and feet. They are always touching something and therefore I thing we naturally have a stronger connection with them. Before I took a Vipassana course I had the same block ...

Re: Too aware to sleep!

Try this, lie down as if you were going to fall asleep and focus your attention on inner body awareness. Try feeling every square inch of your body, inside and out. You can keep your attention here effortlessly all night until you fall into deep sleep. Even if you only get a few hours you will still...

TPON or ANE as a first read?

If someone was interested in learning about enlightenment, which E.T. book would you recommend for a first read? I have lent out both of my copies and the two have kind of blended together. I am sure both are great options, but just thought I would ask. Perhaps you would recommend another book or pa...

Re: The Now - An iPhone Mindfulness App

Just to add, I think there is a lot of potential here to help a lot of people. I am a pretty big fan of the iPhone platform and have followed their OS updates pretty consistently. I actually changed my major to computer science (from Mech E) because of the iPhone. Although I left school right after ...

Re: The Now - An iPhone Mindfulness App

I like the app, its very aesthetically pleasing! I am kind of unsure how it works. Do you pick the time the messages are sent? Are the messages pre-programmed quotes or do you write the reminder yourself? As far as suggestions, I bet you could turn "Practicing the Power of Now" into an app similar t...

Re: Parents and Attachment

i would say that this is a great sign that you are developing in presence. you are starting to become aware of old habits and you are slowly breaking them down one by one. As far as your parents annoying you it is just a conditioned mind pattern. Next time this happens try to feel the negative sensa...

Re: Sexuality/ Homosexuality

The best way to bring consciousness to a partner or family member is through your own consciousness. As your presence grows you will begin to share your unconditional love with everyone around you. They will let down their guard and you will find it easy to connect with them on the deepest levels. T...

Re: just being natural..

hey zerominusnothing, perhaps i am wrong, but I believe i detect a great deal of ego in this post. It seems as though you are lifting yourself by putting down others. Whether you act out your emotions or filter them with socially acceptable behavior makes little difference to finding wisdom. In fact...

Re: Sexuality/ Homosexuality

dear rachaelstack, Being unsure is good, why go and define what you have felt or will feel in the future. Let the feelings come and do your best to watch. Watch what senses fill your body and how that changes the thoughts of your mind. Try not to look to the past or future for answers, only the pres...

Re: Vipassana: Your Thoughts/Experiences

thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences. I am glad that so vipassana has effected others in such a positive way as it has for me. Quinn- I agree with your teacher :D... I can't even describe how amazing the 10 day retreat was. Like you said torture and surrender in an endless cycle for the f...
