Re: Christmas - Bla

Thanks. I guess you are parroting what I was saying. The moment is the moment, but opening deeper to it can allow grace and love if it is there.

Re: Personality

Is your understanding consistent with these explanations Nameste? http://www.accesstoinsight.org/ptf/dham ... jhana.html Yes, they list the 4 material jhanas. There are also 4 immaterial jhanas. These are the arupa (rupa jhanas are the first 4. Rupa means material). The arupa ones are space, concio...

Re: Personality

Good posts here on this. I will add something. I think we as humans will always have our personalities, although they can get more and more refined. But simultanious to that we can have a disassociated awareness as it happens. A sort of background presence while operating in the foreground. The bac...

Re: Illusions

What about self? The sense one has of being an enduring evolving individual entity that was born, will live out its life, and die. On the one hand, this is all self-evidently true: We are all born, we all live, we all die. We all evolve = change, both physically and mentally. Each of us has a uniqu...

Christmas - Bla

Had Christmas tonight with my in-laws extended family. I was sitting listening to all the seeming mindless chatter and I sort of checked out, as if I was watching all this on a movie projector. I didn't give a rats ass about any of it. Not that it bothered me, but I just didn't want to play. I was d...

Re: Anyone else a serious meditator?

Wow. Thanks for the great posts. It is so interesting to hear all the paths people have. What works for them, what doesn't, or changing methods over time. It is also inspiring to see many people experience elevated states, or awareness apart from the limiting constructs of the thinking mind. Sometim...

Anyone else a serious meditator?

I've been practicing meditation for over 35 years, and more serious about it over the last 15 (daily meditations with retreat practice when I can). I've read and studied all the Eckhart teachings and resonate with them. ET teachings helped me transition from yoga based meditation to buddist. Most of...

Re: thought

I've been practicing something called jhana. It is concentration practice that causes the mind to get more and more still, more and more refined. As this happens peace, joy, and rapture occur. At some point you enter the jhana state. It is a state of no self, but you are in a timeless state of pure ...

Re: Social anxiety

Well I watched the You Tube clip. Not sure how that applies to this topic. I supoose it means we can be "tricked" and not aware of things that actually happen. The entire clip is done using ones sensory perception. And the trick is not seeing a particular event because you are involved in another. S...

Re: Social anxiety

Well Ashley, I guess you don't buy any of my ideas, or any spiritual ideas for that matter since they pretty much all subscribe to the non-self concept. And thats fine, but you might want to think about the human condition. The fact that suffering occurs. Social anxiety, the very topic of this threa...

Re: I am so lazy

In buddism there are 5 hinderences that trap you from moving forward with awakening. This is mainly meant for the meditation process, but I think applys generally toward a balanced mind. 1. Sensual Desire 2. Ill-will 3. Sloth and Torpor 4. Restlessness and Remorse 5. Doubt You are stuck on number 3....

Re: Social anxiety

You definitely don't need to jettisoning your sense of self. In fact, you will hopefully build a much more open and less secretive sense of self. BTW, I've watched many of Eckhart Tolle's talks, and I see a man very much identified with his ideas.... and who doesn't appear to have jettisoned a sens...

Re: Social anxiety

I suffered a lot with this as a youth. My daughter suffers terribly with this now. I've overcame it to a large degree, and helping her, and shes made a little progess. I think the anxiety comes from not being centered within yourself. That leads to non-confidence and low self-esteam and an ego self ...

Re: Do I sit and wait for enlightenment to happen?

The person I always thought I was is having them, that person is still here because I still think of myself as an individual. I know that these feelings don't really belong to the me in my truest form and that my depressing stories don't exist but the unpleasant sensations I get from them do exist....

Re: Pleasure of the ego vs enjoyment of the true 'I'

I have difficulty dis-identifying from pleasures of the ego and was wondering how enjoyment of the true I is different/better/more powerful and how to get it to the same level? Yes, I realize pleasure is transitory, but one could imagine doing something pleasurable everyday until they die. Are ther...
