Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm

Great show, it also demonstrates how absurdly complex human relations are in the mind-identified state. To paraphrase Eckhart "most human interactions are an exchange between four entirely conceptual entities: who you think you are, who you think the other person is, who the other person thinks they...

Re: Watching the thinker

But that's the thing, I can't "hear" my thoughts, there is no voice in the head for me, there are no words, It's all totally subliminal. I'm starting to suspect my experience of thought might actually be quite different from the norm... Do most people actually have a verbal commentary in their heads...

Re: Watching the thinker

It's funny you should mention psychedelics, I remember when I took LSD I was able to perceive thought on a very subtle level, I was able to sense thought as though it were a physical thing with a clearly defined shape, I saw the nature of thought very clearly. It's that clarity of perception which I...

Re: Does it ever feel forced to you?

It sounds like you have or are currently experiencing the "death" of the ego. I imagine this was a process (and still is!) I mean, it takes time, right? I admit, at times I get concerned that if it isn't happening for me NOW that it means it never will- that for some reason I am not capable (for wh...

Watching the thinker

In my exploration of Eckhart's teachings I have found that the 'technique' of observing mind activity is the most reliable way of becoming present. I am now wondering if this is unusual as Eckhart seems to talk about other 'portals to now' (silence, inner body) far more often than he talks about wat...

Re: Feeling the inner body...

thanks Jen, sorry I haven't replied sooner. I suppose the energy fields of the human body exist on a spectrum, which manifests as electrical impulses in its most physical aspect, perhaps this is related to 'chi'. Whilst this research is intriguing, I'm not sure if it of practical assistance with reg...

Re: unconsciousness

I was also considering this recently, it's quite a mysterious thing. Eckhart says that dreamless sleep is a return to the "unmanifested", which confused me as I thought the unmanifested was synonymous with consciousness/awareness, and sleep appears to be a lack of consciousness (although I guess we ...

Re: Does it ever feel forced to you?

Hi Jen, I'm asking myself these very same questions. Now that I've dipped my toes in the water and gotten a sense of what living in the Now is actually like, whenever I'm suffering (which is a lot of the time) I have this nagging sense that I'm doing it wrong. The truth is that all I really want is ...

Feeling the inner body...

Hi forum, I have been meditating on the inner body lately with mixed results. Eckhart suggests that when focusing on inner body sensations energy is withdrawn from the mind, this gives rise to a state of presence which is capable of dissolving whatever negativity/resistance/contraction the body hold...

Re: Please help me

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me :) I experienced quite a major shift in perception shortly after posting what I did. Recognising when I am identified with mind activity is what I keep coming back to. Unobserved thinking inevitably turns into suffering for me. Learning to see the value in t...

Please help me

I have been doing this whole PON thing for about 2 years now, yet I am still suffering intensely, I feel totally cut off from my body and emotions, I feel so dead inside. I seem to go through a pattern of escalating misery which culmintes in a moment of blissful 'satori' and connection with being, I...

Re: To whom should I turn in my hour of need?

Having experienced symptoms of DP, I would be very wary about equating this disorder with some sort of spiritual initiation. Whilst sufferers descriptions of losing themselves may on the surface sound like a sort of awakening, this is not the egoless state described by ET and others. Tolle describes...

Re: To whom should I turn in my hour of need?

If you want to feel more alive, then come back to the present moment... more specifically, notice the ways in which you are resisting this moment and allow that resistance to be there; bring a 'yes' into the 'no'. The 'no' may be very subtle, but if you become still you will perceive how your mind i...

Re: To whom should I turn in my hour of need?

Midnight, I've been reading your posts for a while now and I thought I'd chip in. I feel the same way as you do, I am largely numb to emotion and I am apathetically drifting through life, I know how terrible this dissociated state of being can seem and how it drives you to desperation. Wanting to fe...

Re: Intense difficulty attaining presence.

I can't offer much in the way of advice, but thanks for articulating this as it is the same for me. I've had lots of "peak experiences" where I have entered a state of intense presence for periods of a few hours but they remain anomalies. It's almost as if my egoic mind is a virus constantly adaptin...
