Re: What does "thought" mean exactly when Tolle says it's Eg

Yes, interest is wanting to know more. The trouble is you cant know death, just as you can't know happy. You can simply be happy. You want to know life, study life understand life, rather than be life. What can we possibly know about life that will reduce ego? What don't you understand about being h...

Re: What does "thought" mean exactly when Tolle says it's Eg

Interest is wanting, wanting to know about death is akin to heading in the opposite direction. Rather than merely experiencing death from one moment to the next without this wanting. As Tolle has done this, "he" has experienced death. But you cannot know or understand this, but simply be this aware ...

Webwanderer wrote: I don't know how anyone, especially such a considerate thinker as Tolle, not give any thought to such a pervasive subject. Maybe there is more in the context than the isolated quote suggests.
Being/experiencing death does not require additional thought added to.

Re: NDE-"We are here to experience fun and excitement"

Are you happy e2b, if not that's,where practice can be of benefit. You seem to have some twisted ideas of what a spiritual practice is about. It's not a masochistic torture of denial.

Re: Gratitude and a question

The root cause is that when this anxious sensation arisesyou are reacting towards it with desire. A desire for it to stay or a desire for it to leave.

I am taught that being aware and equanimous are the to wings that move you along the path to end suffering.

Re: What does "thought" mean exactly when Tolle says it's Eg

Understand that birth(mental formations) are occurring trillions of times in the wink of an eye. It is because of this pace that we cannot see this clearly and we see ourselves as unchanging permanent structures. When Tolle was asked what happens after the body dies he replied "I don't give it any t...

Re: Desire/Expansion/Joy/Creativity

Whether it is seen as a beautiful creation in alignment with joy or not it must be seen as impermanent by nature, it arises to pass away, no aelf, no control, just masses of sub atomic particles arising and passing very quickly. Any identification with this as me is suffering. This is where a spirit...

Re: Desire/Expansion/Joy/Creativity

A spiritual practice does not have to come from desire(it could I am only speaking from my experience)it comes from a calling it is a waking up it just comes about. Understand I am not suggesting I am free from desires, there is still much time spent in identification. But this can not change the la...

Re: Desire/Expansion/Joy/Creativity

"Fear and desire are the two movements of the unconscious state" ET You cannot desire and be present. A spiritual practice is just that a practice of expanding awareness, when observing breath or sensation there is for those precious moments no desire. This has absolutely nothing to do with any reli...

Re: Scared of presence

This is where a teacher can help to guide you. Presence is not about attaining a tingly state it is awareness of whatever presents itself from moment to moment. Tingles are suffering as well as the sensation of fear. This liking of certain sensation and disliking of other sensation is the old habit ...

Re: Desire/Expansion/Joy/Creativity

This has nothing to do with belief, it is the truth, you just have to look to see this. This is exactly what a spiritual practice is all about. Going deeper and deeper into presence is not a desire, neither is refining the egoic tendencies.

Re: Desire/Expansion/Joy/Creativity

Desire is a deep wanting for something. Dictionary definition. In Pali it is known as tanha, which means thirst or craving. I can't communicate with you if you have your own meanings for words. What is our purpose of life? Butterfly pancakes gorilla sandwich, that should be clear. Any desire is the ...
