Catch yourself getting LOST in wasteful thinking

One of the useful learnings for me from Eckhart is the concept of "wasteful thinking". He suggests in "The New Earth" that we experiment to check if the current thought is wasteful. I have found this checklist quite useful. In TNE (page 254) ET has presented following 9 ways of losing oneself in ego...

A beautiful mind & 3 acts of creativity, madness & awakening

ET refers to the movie "A beautiful mind" in a discussion with Oprah in "A New Earth" chapter 8 video. I rewatched the movie recently and also read the biography of the same name by Sylvia Nasar. Here is my reflection on the story of beautiful mind and the three acts of creativity, madness and awake...

Re: Realizing my biggest addiction - Thinking

Thanks Kathleen. I like Sam Harris' metaphor of "most boring person in the head".

Realizing my biggest addiction - Thinking

Greetings of the new year!

Sharing a blog I wrote recently. Perhaps it is elementary for this forum. But since the trigger is ET, thought of sharing. Happy to hear your views.

Re: Daniel Kahneman

Computer / mobile app sounds really cool, Kathleen. Do post a note in this thread once you have something, so that I will get an intimation. I still have not learnt the art of scanning the entire forum. All the best.

Re: Daniel Kahneman

Do you hate being late and always sort of know what time it is to within 5 minutes?[/b] Makes you guys unsuitable to live in India :-) It has been my primary spiritual practice - to watch the irritation inside as people routinely come late for meetings. Eckhart sometimes throws percentages - perhap...

Re: Doing and non doing a good balance

I guess I would like to know how to feel good about non doing ? ... Problems seem to arise when, I come home tired or just don't feel like doing it, my mind at this point goes into overdrive, "your lazy" "you won't reach your full potential if you sit and do nothing" "people who succeed work hard t...

Re: Daniel Kahneman

Thanks Onceler for the encouragement. Kathleen, I look forward to your post on scale. The nice part about the parameters you are suggesting is that it is very easy to try them out and see if works for oneself in one's current context.

Re: Daniel Kahneman

Thanks to both of you: Kathleen and Onceler for adding clarity. I am sorry, Kathleen, I had not followed the "stages of awakening" thread and you seem to have contributed more than everyone else. I really the like the criteria Kathleen has suggested. I particularly like "speed at which you drop nega...

Re: Daniel Kahneman

So to develop an objective scale for spiritual progress, how valuable that would be! Because that "worst case" bias you mention is alive and well in most of us. ...I'll be thinking about your idea for a spiritual progress recorder you can be sure! :D Kathleen, Thanks for bringing up the topic of ob...

Re: Daniel Kahneman

I am a big fan of Eckhart and Kahneman. One question that makes me curious is: Where does Kahneman and Eckhart intersect? I don't know the answer but here are some thoughts. Kahneman's recent research is on well-being and how to measure it. He experimentally found out that the answers to the questio...
