Re: If we aren't supposed to think how come we aren't trees?

Well ... who says trees don't think ? Perhaps they do, in a simple way. Perhaps, plants do wage wars & fight over turf. But you have to learn how to use this precious and subtle tool. Or it will lose you. You are born into a world where you are strongly encourage to let the mind use you. So what yo...

If we aren't supposed to think how come we aren't trees?

Trees don't think & even if they could it wouldn't do them much good because they can't take any action or move about based on their ideas but it is man's nature to think, I can understand meditation as a practice but to demonize thought as humans seems to be like demonizing gill-breathing as fish. ...

Retreat Centers?

Hi. I haven't posted here in some time, I was just wondering if anyone here has an experience at any retreats (spiritual or secular) and if so, hopefully you wouldn't mind sharing.

Thanks for your time!

Re: The Law of Confusion- an essay

They once asked Martin Luther, "If you had a vision, a very clear vision, with angels present, etc. that the world would end in one week, what would you do?" His answer: "Plant corn." Andy I doubt Martin Luther knew what corn was but it's a nice idea if I understand it correctly (continue to take c...

Re: The Law of Confusion- an essay

The way I feel about "L"oA can be summed up in a nice quote : "Two hands working is better than a thousand hands praying." :)

Musings on "Stillness", Food & Peace of Mind from a father

Hi, I posted occasionally here many years ago & haven't thought about this place much since but I thought I'd throw this topic out in case any here have children. So I have a daughter now, she is almost three. If I had to describe her with adjectives "still" would probably be the last word I would u...

Re: People Who Need People Are Miserable People

I didn't read the whole thread but everyone needs people to some extent. We are social animals.

Clininging & controlling are the probably not the desire for companionship.

Thanks, I just saw your comment.

Did I mention my height in the video? I'd forgotten. What was the context? I do remember I was all over the map there.

Video(s) I made on the subject of ego/human communication

Curious for feedback if anyone has any to offer (besides that I talk too much, I know that already!) The video is on my thoughts on ideal human interaction/communication mostly, with all sorts of sidetrips into psychology & philosophy (and I talk about the ego & how it effects communication) I make ...

Re: Need to break a bad habit ... please help!

I've somewhat addicted to a certain forum also. I have almost 16,000 posts there ! I can understand what you're going thru. For example I got caught up in defending organic agriculture . I'm outspoken so I attract a lot of haters. I've resolved to not go over 16,000 posts which is very chall...

How do you deal with daylight's savings, do you adjust to it or keep your mediatations at the same (real) time regardless of "clock time :D"?

BTW, thanks everyone for the replies!

Do you have a meditation routuine? At what time?

Also, do you meditate at that time 100% of days, rain or shine, thick or thin? What is your practice? Did you make a decision one day to start this practice or did it evolve gradually? Also, if you meditate early in the morning how did you get yourself to wake up & do it. I have a housemate that wou...
