Re: The (neo) advaita trap

I did actually have a very open mind to begin with, Ashley - some might even say a slightly naive mind. It's just I've come to realise that the neo-advaita approach is a highly distorted westernised variation of authentic advaita. A large number of the neo-advaitins I've encountered are exactly like...

The (neo) advaita trap

This is so funny and perfectly sums up the 'neo advaita' types I've repeatedly run across on the internet. What do you think? http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/7262997/the-advaita-trap-the-cartoon Incidentally, I am very much drawn to authentic advaita and have greatly benefited from reading the works...

Re: Jed McKenna is Adyashanti?

Ohh that's interesting Sighclone. Although Adya reads out a story he's written in his Spontaneous Awakening series which sounds remarkably similar to the Jed style of writing...I just can't reconcile the two. What Jed McKenna teaches is very much neo-advaita, or pseudo-advaita as some also call it. ...

Re: Why try to get in to the NOW?

Although yes, we are always in the now - a lot of the time most of us aren't, simply because our minds are elsewhere. Why is it that the mind seems to find past and future so much more enticing than the present? I've always felt that mindfulness/present-moment awareness is such a powerful key for aw...

Re: My opinions on this guy

You're entitled to your opinions Amorbis....sounds like Eckhart's teaching definitely isn't for you. I don't mean this in a demeaning way in the slightest, but your posts, which got progressively angrier in tone, struck me as an ego tantrum, filled with assumptions, interpretations and beliefs that ...

Re: Jed McKenna is Adyashanti?

Yeah, me too. And yet, I keep coming back to him. Jed is probably the most direct teacher (or writer) there is. He rejects all techniques except one: ask yourself the next question. That's it. Don't conceptualize too far, don't practice, don't make some sort of validating mystical thing out of this...

Re: Jed McKenna is Adyashanti?

Yup, me too. I think it's just a case that Adya works for me, while Jed kind of annoys me. I have no proof they are the same person in spite of the similarities in teaching and despite the disparity in attitude. I'm over it already, I will stick to the former and forget that the latter exists (if he...

Re: Jed McKenna is Adyashanti?

i've just finished reading the first Jed book and was also pretty sure it's Adyashanti - the teachings and the style of writing are almost identical (Adya really let it slip when he read a short story he'd written in the Spontaneous Awakening series - it's TOTALLY the same style as this, including t...

Re: Deepak Chopra

I know it is popular today to say that all is needed is to rest in the now, or rest in being and you will be awake, and to some extent that is true, it is the first and foremost portal, if we can call it that. But illusion is very persistent, and usually does not get dispelled that easily. It usual...

Re: TPON or ANE as a first read?

I'm tempted to say A New Earth....I LOVE Power of Now, but it has a 'jumpy' structure thanks to the interposed Q&As. I initially found this jarring and it kind of impacted the flow of the text and was maybe partly the reason I set the book aside for 5 years before I went back to it (maybe that or I ...

Re: Somethings about Eckhart that bugs me

"Every little thing that you say or do, I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you."

You just gotta get over it, the little niggly things. Do they really matter? Either the messenger or the message work for you or they don't. No point in getting hung up on them.

Re: music

Thanks Andy :) Yeah, there is a certain sadness about the song. I didn't direct it in the slightest, I just let it compose itself...so the mood and feel just happened spontaneously. There is a certain sadness about the theme, 'sleeping angels', which is a metaphor for the vast majority of us human b...

Re: music

Hehe, thanks. I haven't shared this with all that many people. I composed a song and created a video using fractal images I made...it's a meditative journey, with a very cosmic kind of vibe. Like you, Eckhart inspired me with my music. I sat at my keyboard and entered a place of stillness and create...

Re: music

Groovy song my friend! I love electronic music, and things that are kind of chilled but have a groove! It's wonderful that Eckhart has inspired you to express yourself creatively. He has certainly done so for me, too! I was going to post a song/video I made, but then I thought it might be a bit rude...
