Re: Doing it wrong - common mistakes and how to aviod them
A pitfall for me was really the notion that enlightenment was an end goal, something to strive for, something to "add" to myself. In reality, that's probably the ego talking - ooh, wouldn't it be great to be enlightened. I'll have me some of that! I laughed at something Adyashanti said: it might sta...

Re: "Gay" forcing me out of unconsciousness
I'm so grateful for this thread. I also happen to be gay, which as yougarksoo said, is something which totally possesses you when you're growing up - it's like a part of you you're fighting, a negative identity and something you're really scared will alienate you and bring you suffering. Once you fi...

Re: Eckhart's 'form' getting in the way
Interesting thoughts...but what you are saying really is no reflection on Eckhart himself. rather it's a reflection on one of the pitfalls of the 'student' ...it's the tendency to get caught up in the form of the teacher. Rather like the old metaphor of the finger pointing at the moon - if you get t...

Re: Keeping the momentum throughout the day...
Great question, and one that I've found very applicable to myself. I always find it easy to start off the day in Presence, and also easiest to meditate in the morning, which really kicks me into gear so to speak. But as the day goes on, it's so easy to slip back into 'mind mode' and lose touch with ...

Re: Tolle to teach on Oprah.com
Thanks for checking back in with us samadhi, don't be such a stranger. Your presence here is always welcome. :) Thanks Webwanderer, I'll be back :D I've now listened to the first three podcasts and am re-reading the book as I go. I think having the two in tandem (classes and books) is brilliant for...

Re: Tolle to teach on Oprah.com
Hey peeps, It's been a very long time since I've been around these parts but a little voice urged me in this direction and I'm so glad I did so. I was so delighted to learn about the ET/Oprah webcasts I can't tell you! I eargerly signed up, fully expecting to pay, but was surprised and delighted whe...

How do you stay Present while on the computer??
Hey, Does anyone else find that spending anything more than a few minutes sitting in front of the computer (and specifically browsing the internet) completely takes them out of a state of presence? I find being on the computer very mind-oriented: it's all stimulus for the mind no doubt, but afterwar...

I found innerhike's opening post very interesting because it spelt out a paradox i was struggling with. The crux of ET's teaching (i still find refering to Eckhart as 'ET' somewhat amusing, when I first arrived on the board i actually wondered why there were repeated mentions of aliens on the forum ...

You know, I feel really humbled when I read a lot of the posts on this forum. So much insight...loved innerhike's words, found them very illuminating. I myself feel that there's a place for all different teachings. Some might gravitate more to Eckhart Tolle and some might find themselves more attune...

P.S. I also love the song 'Ego' by Darren Hayes. Speaks volumes... I have been contemplating Letting go of you ego Thought I'd let you know You're getting old It was so irritating saving face When I fell from grace Thought that you'd erase Without a trace But you stayed But you remained But you.. It...

I am a big fan of Enigma and my favourite album of all-time is 'Le Roi Est Mort Vive Le Roi'...helped me through a very difficult time in my life. Here are the words to a song called 'Beyond the Invisible', which I think are wonderful, especially the two main verses... (Whispered intro: I look into ...

This topic makes me :) It just does. I must admit I had a reflex reaction of 'this is totally a publicity 'look at me' stunt', but who's to say? I had this preconceived notion of Paris being someone who's never read a book in her life, but that's ego on my part, because how can I judge someone I onl...

So glad I found this place :)
Hey everyone, As I said in my post title, I am so overjoyed to have found this forum! Normally I steer well clear of internet forums, for many of them are just arenas of ego battles...i'm sure you know what i mean! In fact, some internet forums make me queasy... But a forum dedicated to Eckhart Toll...
