Great stuff. Addiction can show us up close and personal how the mind functions in our life. So count your blessings, hidden in all the guilt and torment there may be a widening of presence. There is only one cigarette to consider, the next one. Do you want it, or not? The mind defeats you when you ...

Wow. This is a fun one! The metaphysical lead is really flying  Nice job on both sides of the debate, especially nijin for standing up to all the bliss ninnies around here  Its great that we all come from different philisophical traditions and can have it out in a fun and constructive w...

I can understand people not wanting ET to be a career coach but I don't know why two mutually exclusive thngs- inner stillness and life's work or purpose should ever be mixed up. Hi Hiran. Are you sure that there must be a thing called a life purpose that is separate from inner stillness? If the li...

krystalist, did your drug experiences lead you to a lasting sense of peace? Seems to me that there isnt anything aside from an awareness of ones own life experience that can bring about the decision to release the ego. Life offers us an opportunity to choose -- the 'me'...or peace. How can a drug ma...

Wow, y'know, I hadn't even considered that poem from an animal-rights perspective! And Im largely vegetarian! I am sorry for the upset Goldenflutist. You may enjoy the other poems of Chuang Tze better...wonderful meditations on Tao. It leads one to ponder. What a profound miracle...our essential bei...

What does it matter what you do in this world? Is anything 'out there' ever going to complete you? St. Augustine..."Love God and do what you will." So simple. Once we align ourselves with the flow of what is, what can we do wrong? Where is the inner and the outer then? Spend a moment with Thomas Mer...

Thats a good point Wings. less thinking, not more. Thanks for the reminder. Im right there with you. AND... it might not be the best idea to drag our friend W into this mess to make a point. No need to get that close to the painbody :) Observing the behavior of pretty much any politician will give y...

Goodness no! Far be it from me to insist on the reality of anything. Myself, I try not to believe in anything for longer than necessary. Politicians seem to thrive on certainty however. Maybe thats why we keep electing these bozos...the fear-inherent mind-based self seeks certainty, so it can finall...

Ever seen the TV show The Dog Whisperer? The guy, Ceasar Milan, goes to the houses of people with disobedient dogs. Houses where the dogs are completely disrupting their owners' lives. Barking, biting, chewing, running around. The worst dogs, totally out of control. Every episode they show the human...

Well Narz, I for one wish you would stick around. Every good spiritual discussion needs a hard-headed realist to cut through the mumbo-jumbo.

As for the rudeness, maybe if you quit resisting and enjoyed it? Rude posts can be kind of entertaining when you dont take them too seriously.

Ive done my thing with substances, and I wouldnt trade those experiences for anything. Im not even against using them in the future, just far less interested. I think plants and chemicals might have a place in showing one a little bit of what is possible, or at least showing that the mind can be a m...

My favorite stuff coming out of research psychology these days is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or ACT. Especially check out the work of Steven Hayes at U of Nevada. Its strange, this stuff sounds a lot like Buddhism and ET...lots of talk about mindfulness and acceptance...but they are Behaviori...
