Re: Know Who You Are

Impressive posts by e-man and HL ... In one of his lesser heralded teachings Buddha had a list of the Four Imponderables which were said to be topics which were impossible to fathom. I often wish that he'd expanded the list to Five Imponderables and included the True Self Vs. No Self debate as well....

Re: How to explain the Now to others

Werd.... Years ago I remember a poster insisting that kiki is actually Eckhart Tolle incognito. :?: The more he posts the less I doubt it. I don't know of anyone in online-dharma who can "nothin but net" like kiki -san. "So what are we suppose to do, just sit around and observe our thoughts and emot...

Re: Shifting View

I was reading Nisargadatta Maharaj and he put it very succinctly by saying:

"If you are in a theater and you want to change the movie that is playing, you don't run up on stage and attack the screen, you go to the projector."

Re: How to explain the Now to others

“If the point is to only live in the Now, what’s the point of doing anything?" The point is that there is nothing but the now, anything we do, we do it now and only now. Any point we make, we make now and only now. So the point isn't to live only now, the point is that there's nowhere else to live,...

Re: How do you shut up about it

It reminds me of what the poet Rumi said: " Don't tell your secrets to unbelievers, Speak to a thorn-eating camel's only about thorns ." But, there is another angle to this also; the closer you get to these teachings the more natural it is to want to relieve suffering when you see it. Might it also ...

Re: What's wrong with me?

I'll go along with karmarider (a.k.a. "the master of subtlety") on that one... :D Adyashanti also said it very well. "Only ego wants to get rid of ego; what you really are has no desire to get rid of anything" That's about as clear as it gets. :) It's just a matter of seeing the games we're conditio...

Wow, that was quite a first post Kerry D. I have over a hundred posts and yours was better than all mine put together.

Re: what is everything there is to know about this

To be fair, he does only seem to be looking for answers for his paper, and nothing more. It's kinda weird bro, but I have had the opposite vibe right from the start. Granted he keeps asking in that context, but I'm not sure what this is actually about. I am always greatful to have my assumptions qu...

Re: what is everything there is to know about this

I want to reiterate what I said in my first post: I consider Cmaerz to have raised one of the toughest questions ever asked on this forum. Not that the question is tough, the question is actually very reasonable. The tough part is to answer it in the terms that he keeps asking for: definitions, theo...

Re: One of the greatest quotes in spirtuality!

""If you think you're enlightened, try spending a week with your parents..." -Ram Dass.

I am not a huge Ram Dass fan, but that is one of the greatest quotes in the history of spirtuality!

Re: "Who am I?"

Basically, that is the whole book, albeit a pamphlet. You can find "Who am I" published in several places, usually within complations of works by Ramana Maharshi . This question and answer version of the book is the earily form written from notes made during a talks between Ramana Maharshi and a dev...

Re: Thinking!

I'll pick up where Andy left off, by welcoming you to the board, and I'll just add a few thoughts of my own about thought. Actually, I am probably pretty lucky because the mental chatter aspect of things is very minimal for me. I have gone a few days at a time without mental chatter, but honestly it...

Re: Just had a moment of very strong presence

How far do I take this state of having no fear? Does that mean that I should fully accept and embrace the fact that I could die any moment? If you take it far enough you will see that "you" actually do die every moment, and so does the fear. But wont that make me a "danger" to my self? (As I wrote ...

Wow... I'm not sure how to approach this one... It's times like this I wish Kiki and enigma had pagers and I could just hit speed dial and put them on the case... :D
