Monk Hyungak a.k.a., Hyon Gak Sunim a.k.a., Paul Muenzen

Have any of you ran into any video lectures by this Monk Hyungak character? I really enjoy his teaching style. Nisargadatta videos are pretty rare but Monk Hyungak reminds me a lot of Nisargadatta Maharaj in his bombastic approach to lecturing. You just never know what he is going to say or do. I am...

Re: Is meditation necessary to awaken?

Meditation is not the path to awakening, clarity is. Meditation however, can be a path to clarity. Well said WW . In terms of cultivating clarity, I also find that meditation can play an important role (as can wisdom). Seemingly Nisargadatta Maharaj used this combination to great affect in allowing...

Diamond Sutra Time!

Wow, man... We are so lucky! I was just reminded that we could easily live in a time with no dharma... I just love the Diamond Sutra, what a great treasure it is. http://www.diamond-sutra.com/diamond_sutra_translation.html Here are some links to audio lectures on the Diamond Sutra; these are free (o...

Re: The Doorway To Now

His Feb 18th radio show had a very similar theme "Awakening from the Past". It's 1h 51m show and it's a free download on his website.

Re: Koan.

Beautifully put Sighclone . You take a really interesting perspective on the Koan, and I'd have to agree. Another way I like to look at it draws upon the very nature of thought, and the possibility that Master Mazu baited Tropidica's mind and decieved it: Since Master Mazu seemingly had no ability t...

Koan.

. . I love this particular Koan. <3 - I'm not sure of it's history as I only heard it once in passing; it really hooked me though... In the Golden Age of Zen the Great Master Mazu had 84 enlightened disciples and was the teacher of the entire nation. He was visited by a monk from India named "Big ea...

Re: A question of identity.

Thanks for the responses guys; esp Larryfoot , there are some great pointers there, very helpful. It has been occuring to me that one of the main reasons that I have not encountered this "enlightened guy" identity before is because this is the first time that it has ever been challenged. In the days...

A question of identity.

I was very surprised today to find myself "upset" ...it has been several years since the awakening and I would say that even though life keeps happening I virtually never get upset about anything. Getting upset is so very rare, almost like stuff has nowhere to stick. However... I had something happe...

As always well said Kiki. I also love the way it's put in the San Do Kia.

Re: Several Questions

Eye contact is really difficult for me. I become terrified of it. I know that if I can just forget it then I'll just do it naturally but it's really hard for me to maintain eye contact and stay present. Any thoughts? I was really astonished to discover one day that we can see with our heart. I find...

Re: Greetings

That was a very tantalizing account of your first Satori z fox. I am really really happy to meet you and I am sure that you will find lots of love and support on these boards. It has been great for me too + meeting others who recognise that there is no other is the very best part.

"The sutras in question are the entire universe, mountains, rivers, the great earth, plants, and trees; they are the self and others, taking meals, wearing clothes, confusion, and dignity. Following each of them and studying them, you will see an infinite number of unheard-of sutras appear before yo...

Re: Unexpected experience during meditation (What is this?)

I've never felt anything like the sensation of letting myself fall into that void Are you sure :?: ...After all, we enter deep dreamless sleep for a few short hours each and every night, eyes twitching. ~Perhaps this it the first time you have been conscious of it, but is it really the first time y...
