Re: Instant Awakening, Channelling, LoA

But I can see how if there is a big bang experience that gives knowledge of ones true identity that one is not the body but awareness of the body and everything else, then it can break down the conditioning instantaneously. But: lastingly? If not, what value is it? This dynamic of conditioning happ...

Re: Instant Awakening, Channelling, LoA

From early childhood there is repetition, conditioning, ingrained into a person by other persons that what they are is the body/mind. It takes time to ingrain that knowledge. "Spirituality" is undoing of that. This undoing also takes time for most. But I can see how if there is a big bang experience...

Re: Oy! I'm having an Advaita crisis! HELP! ;-)

rachMiel and smiileyjen101 I agree that this quote I put up from J Shwartz is not the best one, it's harsh, and would a lot of times be completely inaccurate. But the point I wanted to bring across is that I think it's possible that a person already knows all he needs to know about this stuff, and h...

Oy! I'm having an Advaita crisis! HELP! ;-) rachMiel, I got this from J Swartz on page 4 here http://www.shiningworld.com/Books%20Pages/PDF%20Books/Ramanas%20Teachings.PDF This might or might not be applicable to you, but you ask great questions which to me seem to contain all the answers. There ar...

What a fun and clear article, most "enlightening" scientific article I've read (sorry for the "swear" word)

Re: Vedanta

I got to this excerpt in pdf of J Swartz commenting on the teachings or Maharshi. What he is talking about is subtle, but interesting. I never thought of it this way... It's from page 66 http://www.shiningworld.com/Books%20Pages/PDF%20Books/Ramanas%20Teachings.PDF Language is very important because ...

Re: Bicameral Theory of Consciousness

Sure, no doubt. How about the act of knowing that is there to any change from embryo (or to the earliest moment you remember anything) to up until now, did this act of knowing, or quality of it, change you would say? Most certainly I have changed rapidly. At the embryo stage I couldn't think, feel,...

Re: Bicameral Theory of Consciousness

... you would quickly see rapid changes in my physical form as my organism evolved from a small embryo to now. Well our mind-space is also something that is constantly evolving and expanding over time. Sure, no doubt. How about the act of knowing that is there to any change from embryo (or to the e...

Re: Bicameral Theory of Consciousness

Ashley throughout your time on this forum you have gone through phases of themes of what you post about it seems. Recently you've been posting a lot of scientific theories explaining conciousness. Can I ask you what you main point is with this? And for fun, how would you answer this question: "when ...

Re: Vedanta

How can one KNOW, with utter certainty, that non-dual awareness (Brahman) is real, rather than just a beautiful fairy tale? How do you know that you are Rick and this world is real? You believe it based on what you think. There is absolutely no evidence that you are a ‘Rick’ nor is there any way fo...

Re: Vedanta

The universe comes into being when the absolute awareness stirs and becomes self-aware, manifested in and through physical forms. In maya, this consciousness then becomes identified with the forms, creating a false identity, a little pseudo-entity that appears to have an independent, inherent exist...

What is that "absolute nothing" that you are talking about?

Re: Watching Television

Could you also tell me how watching TV prevents/effects you for being present? I think there is good television out there. Like anything, it can be so engaging as to lose ourselves in it. But the way I often stay present watching TV is to see where what is going on is taking my attention. The camer...

Re: How to experience that feeling of connectedness?

Hello Spectrum. Just want to say first, don't take what I'm about to say too seriously, just check for yourself... By the way, I never had anything to do with religion or spirituality as part of my upbringing. I don't meditate in the sense of sitting down and closing my eyes or something like that. ...

Re: Discussing bias of perspective

It is only difficult because of the abstraction of spirituality. What I was looking for in trying to hold on to the sense of I am, is "awareness", "presence", the true Self, the real me and so on. I can't really explain why this misses the mark; it's something you have to experience. Yes the big sp...
