Re: New Tolle Silent Meeting group: We've had our first meeting

James, after reading how you play a piece by Tolle when the meeting starts, feels like a nice cue into getting grounded and setting a receptive mood. True, little me, chit chat does prevail and one can get sucked up into it by trying to be accommodating, and yes, friendliness is fun and good but as ...

Re: New Tolle Silent Meeting group: We've had our first meeting

Eckhart's suggestion of silent meetings was not a rule, but had more to do with avoiding the "little me" traps that keep us stuck. My experience has been that there is often no end to the questions from newer students, until inner stillness is experienced, then there is the Ahaaa! And they realize ...

Re: New Tolle Silent Meeting group: We've had our first meeting

Susan, reading of your experience resonated with my similar newly found group of about 5 weeks now. It started out with two women other than me and 2 weeks ago, another woman joined. We are now four. I have to agree, about reservations of not wanting to appear overtly verbose and extol the virtues o...

[quote]If you find you are washing the dishes then your outer purpose is to simply wash the dishes, being fully attentive to the actual procedure of washing them - not to get them done to "get it out of the way". Something so mundane as this can be very peaceful and joyful. If you are drinking your ...

Re: Is there such a thing as a healthy EGO?

Heidi, thanks for the lead to that thread. In fact, it was probably this thread that set me pondering and forming the title of this post. Erict’s reference to ET’s link about Self Esteem was excellent and which I forwarded to other members of my newly adopted study group, which is being enjoyed trem...

Is there such a thing as a healthy EGO?

Young persons maintenance of motivation, stamina, eagerness, desire to win, remaining competitive in the dog-eat-dog business world and so on, is this best served by a “healthy ego,” or “no ego” and/or pure “presence?” ET’s sign posts point toward decisions made from a sense of being are best served...

Re: "Being In The Zone" vs "Being Present"

In some of ET’ webcasts, he’s mentioned a couple of times about taking in the present moment by capturing or just focusing on some of the most simple things in life we take for granted and routinely overlook. He said, simple things like just lathering your hands and dipping them in the running water...

Re: Driving in the Now.

Being present while driving, is like being on point. Alert and focused due in part to all the negative consequences one can experience at the hands of unconscious driving can be regrettable. Driving can be fun, at times. It’s like a private sanctuary or cruise bubble containing only you wrapped in a...

James wrote: We can rest in the IS-ness of life (Presence), and accept that the mystery we call life, the one life, IS living itself as you and me. What more do we need to know? Agreed - simplicity, acceptance of it, is being in the moment as much as possible keeps us closer, if not entirely within...

The essence of presence is “not knowing” who we are?

When Tolle said, “true presence is not knowing who you are.” This itself tells the “I am” is simply that. This can translate to: no more descriptions, no conceptualizing, no form identity, and literally no thought. To try verbalizing this sense of being, in essence, is to try delving back into thoug...

Re: What does Presence and saying “Yes” to life mean?

Saying this is not meant to boast or to appear better for it but just to highlight a few experiments from the take-off of Tolle’s nods of acceptance and/or saying “yes” more often, then not. Yesterday, when attending another Friday, Tolle book meeting, the two woman who were there with me went on ex...
