Re: The end of your world

I've just started reading the end of you're world. I am new to adya's teachings and find this book a good pointer. In fact, i think its great. hehe. even if that may be a thought of the ego. :D Pointers only have value if you wake up! Otherwise you will make a pretty map of what you 'learn', you th...

Re: rain gods and egos

Here is something that does not exist: a second head on my shoulders. I can dwell on that all day and it won't pop up. If you believed that you had a second head it would affect your experience. There are countless examples of people believing an untruth that greatly affected their experience. A se...

Re: rain gods and egos

Not to get in the middle of you two but Jim your saying exactly what I just said about the ego it is just another something thing and if left alone and not given any power it is just another thought as your saying here. Is that not correct? Peace Randji No Randji, it's not a thing to be left alone ...

Re: rain gods and egos

If the ego is not real, then what is that impulse, that life energy inside of me that wants to trot out all my quotes from the famous nondualists who talk about the ego, to argue with you? Let's call it the "notego." My "notego" is a powerful force inside of me. It shows up when somebody insults me...

Re: Capitalism and Spirituality

Capitalism is a word that can mean many things to many different people. If you take it in the simplest form, it's where individuals or groups get economic reward for a product or service that they sell. At this level it makes sense.... If I have a field of watermelons and they ripen all in a small ...

Re: Significance of thought

There seems to be a running theme among non-dualist teaching that all thoughts are untrue. A thoroughly questioned mind is an open mind. An open mind is a creative tool. Thoughts are images or descriptors. When thought correlates with reality then that is very different from when thought has no bas...

Re: rain gods and egos

Great analogy. There is a lot of language that personifies the ego. For example, the ego wants control. Or that wasn't really me, it was my ego talking. (Which can be effective descriptions when not taken too literally.) This post offers a nice comparison to remind us not to place too much emphasis...

rain gods and egos

Our ancient ancestors are reported to have attributed phenomena that they didn't understand, to Gods. They believed that it rained when God decided, thunder and lightening were also playthings of the Gods. The list, apparently, is a very long one. These beliefs actually affected the way the ancients...

Re: Does becoming ego-less have socially negative effects?

All the world's a stage, Jim. Even enlightened beings can enjoy theater. Suffering is not knowing the stage from the foyer from the mind of the architect, and not knowing the characters from the actors and the actors from the Source. Samsara doesn't end when nirvana is found; the emporer's clothes ...

Re: Does becoming ego-less have socially negative effects?

There seems to be a misunderstanding here that is quite fundamental to understanding what awakening is, and that misunderstanding has created certain ideas about what will then happen. Many people think that ego dissolves or dies, and that is not true. What happens is that attachment to it dissolve...

Re: Does becoming ego-less have socially negative effects?

I have been studying Buddhism and reading Eckhart Tolle's books, "A New Earth" and "The Power of Now". I understand that a person can become more peaceful with his inner being if he learns to dissolve his self-created ego. Hi JWS You say " I understand that a person can become more peaceful with hi...

Re: letting go of the ego

Jeezel Jim, that seems a bit heavy handed on our friend Andy. Even an intellectual discourse can help one improve the tone of one's life. And while mental dialog may not be awakening, it may well create an atmosphere where awakening can occur. The point I am making is that an intellectual understan...

Re: letting go of the ego

But let there be no confusion, what + jim + says: Clarity can only exist in the present, it cannot be stored. is true. What impact does that have on you? Will it end the intellectual replies? I don't know. Probably not. You are welcome to follow all my posts and wave your arms, saying this is all i...

Re: letting go of the ego

+ jim + is right. I am a prisoner of intellect and the mind...in 90% of my postings on this board. If you are aware of this, why do you mostly present what you say as if it is coming from a place of clarity? I like to think that I find people down their intellectual bunny trail at whatever point th...

Re: Who is your favorite spiritual teacher?

You missed gdvant's point erict - he wrote authentic exploration and first hand discovery they are his favourite spiritual teacher - they happen to be mine too! Second-hand teachings are a very poor substitute for authentic meditative exploration. (actually, they are no substitute at all - they are ...
