Meditation - open or closed?

Hi

During meditation I get sleepy when I have my eyes closed (prefer - as cuts out visual stimuli)

I guess if you have them open you can practise not judging what you are looking at? but how to focus?

Any tips?

Thanks

I am probably present 1% of the time :( For example in the morning before work i may be present, then at lunchtime and then again in the evening for a short while. Other than that during work, etc i am not,...

Re: advice re Tolle's books

A question - what are your experiences with 'grasping'? I have this 'grasping' mentality with regard to - well anything really!!! For example books - I have devoured them by the hundreds literally :D I suppose ego's way of filling the emptiness inside (I suppose if I actually did work on myself then...

Re: living with children

Wow, Jim thanks for posting that - really thought-provoking. At first, I thought that commenting, acknowledging, and praising children for their achievements express love and build self-esteem. In time, I realized that these well-intended interventions do just the opposite: they foster dependency on...

Weichen, you quote
which deals with the inherent problems in the teaching of Tolle.
just out of a 'non-defensive' interest - what are they?

Re: Mother's fondnest for "psychological thrillers"

If you want her to awaken, the best thing you can do is to share your presence with her. If she is ready to awaken she will ask you more about it. Definately - the shining light of your presence radiates outwards and affects everyone for the good (even if their ego's feel threatened by it!) :P You ...

Re: 'Monday morning' feeling

The only problem with Monday is our judgment about it, our reaction to it.
Thanks Innerhike for your thoughts - very true!

Monday is a day like any other just like each moment is a moment like any other........

Re: Accept the Moment as if you had chosen it

Thanks keymaster

I like this
Only the mind looks elsewhere, not you
- very true!!! the mind wanting things to be different (or more) than things are.

Reminds me of the quote in Doctor Who Daleks or something? was it "Resistance is futile"? :P

Wow - good going!

I really like weichen's idea too - that E's ego creeps back in before PoN.

Re: 'Monday morning' feeling

Thanks Onceler, that is a great idea - to have some time before leaving for work when I am being present, maybe meditation (nearly put medication lol) I will try that (I am usually tempted to watch TV or something to take my mind off work...)
