Re: Ramana Mahrishi in a nutshell

I agree with you Jason. The experience of being a body/mind is just as valid as the one of being consciousness/awareness. Someone may prefer one or the other at some point, but they are both "true." Both experiences come from the same "one source." The same presence is always here, regardless of the...

Re: Who here is fully enlightened?

I will certainly watch the other videos. Ideally, neither Jim nor the "angry individual" should know they are being taped.
Anyway, everything I say is just a limited point of view.

Re: Who here is fully enlightened?

P.S. Jim is a non-duality teacher who focuses on the idea that we are not our stories, bodies, minds, but pure luminous, ever-present consciousness. This really sounds like replacing a story with another story! It's an annoying paradox: as soon as we start describing what we are, we are just creati...

Re: Want to see an enlightened person deal with an angry person?

It seems to me that the "ultimate perspective" mentioned in the clip is an illusion.
It is a "nice" perspective, but not ultimate...
The ultimate perspective may not even exist.

Re: Tarot Card Readers

Good genes.
Genes are the "canvas/scaffold" of physical life forms, and life "paints" on them.

Re: Awakening and marijuana

Inter-individual variability is VERY well-known to doctors and the pharmaceutical industry, and they are trying to address it to their best. However, developing a new pharmaceutical drug that works on ~80% of the population costs 1 billion $ US. We, as society, simply cannot afford to create a drug ...

Re: Awakening and marijuana

The problem with this is - who is deciding? Who gives those who decide these things authority to tell me which plants on this earth (which were here before humans) I can put in my body? I guess it depends on whether you want to live within a large group of people or in isolation. Large groups of pe...

Re: Awakening and marijuana

What I find really interesting is that most of our pharmaceutical drugs are synthetic forms or derieved from plants. Somehow we have been brought up to believe that these drugs are safer. Industrial products tend to be safer because we usually know exactly the quantity and quality of drugs in pharm...

Re: Isn't Enlightenment Really Just a Brain Trick?

Thank you for your suggestions, James. You have a lot of interesting approaches and experiences. Keeping a log of dreams could be useful, but not for me. I dream very little and even if I dream, I forget everything very quickly. I guess this shows how different people can be. Regarding the topic of ...

Re: Space Consciousness

Awareness of self-consciousness for longer and longer periods during one's non-sleeping period is not a small accomplishment. The above quote strongly suggests that "awareness of I am" is a brain function. It is a big accomplishment, indeed, but it may not be the real self. It could be that the rea...

Re: Space Consciousness

Great stuff - Thank you gdvant!

I'm just wondering if "aware of being aware" is nothing more than a word play.
Could we be "aware of being aware of being aware" and so on? Are we not just aware (from time to time)?

Re: Isn't Enlightenment Really Just a Brain Trick?

I know what you mean, RCharles, and I even posted a similar question half a year ago: http://eckhart-tolle-forum.inner-growth.info/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4942 My current understanding is that everything we can talk about is pretty much generated by the brain. However, the ability to get out of the "cra...

Re: Ramana Mahrishi in a nutshell

"Who am I" doesn't necessarily work for everybody. Some people spent many years in meditation with this question, and nothing happened - which may be a good thing.
