Re: Human conciousness

"Innerhike" said in another post that the stillness of nature is a nice metaphor, and I agree completely. Human consciousness is only as special as the mind considers it to be. My experience with animals showed me that all animals are aware of their being. The quieter your mind is, the more you can ...

Re: "You" can never be in the present moment

Thank you, HermitLoon - What you're describing is the best practice, if there is such a thing. You're a living example of spontaneous awakening.
The funny part is that most people will appreciate such an approach only after a long struggle with various other practices.

Re: "You" can never be in the present moment

You make a valid point Lucy. But I think there is a role for wide gate teachings such as Tolle's, (apparently since that is what is happening). I agree with you, James. I can give myself as an example: before reading A New Earth, I used to dismiss any kind of spiritual talk very quickly: "Philosoph...

Re: Eckhart Bashing - Bring It On

We could say that they are not in deep sleep anymore. In fact, they are able to be awake even during deep sleep. Or at least it seems that way. A reliable example could be that of Ramana: "The sleep, dream and waking states are mere phenomenon appearing on the Self, which is stationary as simple awa...

Deep Sleep

Some people report that they are able to remain aware even during deep sleep! They have the feeling of "being there".
However, this is not my case.

We can get a pretty good "preview/glimpse" of death every time we go into deep dreamless sleep!
Life is kind enough to show it to us!

Re: What is life like now for you?

Neither the mind or body is liberated...it is liberation from the mind and body. Neither the mind or body escapes from illusion...they are the illusion. Yes Eric - and it might be even closer to say that there is a liberation from attachment to the illusion - and that is one ("my") definition of "f...

Re: What is life like now for you?

It seems that awakening liberates the mind only, and not the body. After awakening, the mind escapes from the dream/illusion of self-created identity. Mental suffering ceases. However, the body does not escape the dream of form (cause and effect) - at least not until "complete" physical death. Even ...

Re: "I am that I am!" Or is it?

Thank you for your insightful reply, WW. And then there is the ever present potential of becoming lost in the idea of disappearance. Some may believe it so completely as to lose the richness and joy in the adventure of life, in favor of blandness and escapism. I couldn't agree more. I am grateful fo...

"I am that I am!" Or is it?

Some nondual teachers propose that "I am that I am" is still an illusion. They propose that we are the "background" in which "I am" and "I wasn't" and "I've just appeared" (as when waking up in the morning) happen! For example: http://itisnotreal.com This website seems to describe an "awakening from...

You seem to be worried about some of ET's teachings - especially regarding planning.

Re: Planning O.K. Troubles

Even when you're planning, you're still in the flow of life. You can't do anything without being in the flow of life. However, you can perceive it as struggle or as joy. If you can feel joy while planning, and you don't get attached to it (own it), it should be OK to do some planning. The mind is a ...

Re: Vegetarian

What if you become aware of the intense suffering of "compressed glucids and lipids?" Will you search further afield for your food? Glucids and lipids are not considered alive - at least not yet. They are not able to replicate themselves. By the time humans may consider these chemicals alive, they ...

There is a full-length BBC documentary, available on the internet, describing how various famous mathematicians and philosophers that tried to understand the concepts of infinity and uncertainty ended up in mental hospitals, but also "somehow" proved that we cannot understand these concepts: http://...
