Re: Science and Buddhism

Or, to use a quantum paradigm: Can one see/perceive waves instead of (along with) particles? rachMiel, I'm out of town right now, but I know somewhere I read (or saw) a whole discussion on this. When I get back, I'll see if I can find it. If I remember... :? But I do remember something about all of...

Re: Why would you get married?

I thought it would be an interesting experience ... This reminds me of a meeting I had with a friend a couple of years ago. I hadn't seen Walter since college days, some 25 years before. At that time, he was a bit of a drifter, interested in many things (especially meditation and music), but not co...

Re: Science and Buddhism

Thanks, Sighclone. Normally I steer clear of "dancing quantum monks" kinda presentations ... but I like these. Both eastern thinkers and quantum physicists agree that the distinction between material and nonmaterial is in reality not as distinct as it seems to our faculties of human perception (perh...

I've heard great things about him and almost went to a retreat of his a while back. But life intervened, as is its wont.

Re: How are we different personalities and not different egos.

What do you think does define who you are, Quinn? Well, rachMiel - I thank you for that question. It had the effect of stopping me cold, sending my mind into a spinning frenzy trying to come up with what defines me only to burn out and stop again. ! ;-) I know the feeling very well. For me it manif...

Re: Feeling the Inner Body...

Thanks. :-) I reread the part of Power of Now where Eckhart talks about the inner body ... and am "practicing" feeling my inner body. It seems to come very easy/naturally for me. As fond as I am of words/concepts, I negotiate the world very largely in terms of feeling. One thing I found very helpful...

Re: How are we different personalities and not different egos.

So is there any real CORE personality, either genetically or natural? I remember Tolle talking about this on the webinair with Oprah saying something along the lines of, "If I'm soft-spoken, I won't suddenly become loud" To clarify, having a soft-spoken demeanor is not what I meant by "substantial ...

Re: How are we different personalities and not different egos.

I still remember very vividly the first moment I opened to the possibility that this rachMiel guy, this "I" possessed no underlying personality essence, no substantial "core" that persisted over my lifetime, perhaps over multiple lives, no kernel of pure abiding rachMiel-ness. It was one part utterl...

Re: Any members who have conquered their neuroses?

A guy I know said something a while back that I found very enlightening. It went something like this: Are you sure it wasn't Tolle? If not, you have a very tuned in friend. It was someone in my Buddhist sangha. I don't know if he has read Tolle. And, yes, he does seem "tuned in." He spent a year be...

Re: Feeling the Inner Body...

Is the inner body kinda sorta the yin-yang opposite of the pain body? Light/vitality <-> darkness/pain? Who knows for sure? I don't think it's important to categorize it, but to be able to sense it and use it as a portal to presence. Knowing it's there and available as a touchstone is very helpful ...
