Re: What gets enlightened

People talk and write of 'truth realisation' which suggests there is something that is realising. Different teachers talk about this in different ways and it can be confusing. Yes they do, I think that it is because of a fundamental difference between East and West. The East is Being or Self and th...

Re: What gets enlightened

I feel like all there is left to do is give up. I don't see anything that can be 'done.' I get frustrated with the search, realise that this kind of frustration and internal push-pull is exactly what I am trying to be released from, and yet giving up, surrendering, is the one thing I don't seem abl...

Yes and there is the sense that I am going 'home' or I have found my home in realising being.

And do you sense that you are becoming more intelligent by knowing yourself?

Re: What gets enlightened

I have been asking the same question lately. Hi Vera I would like to clarify terms, kind of a like spiritual glossary and we can all know what we are refering to: Self = Being = the state of being = impersonal self = ego = the human condition = emotional entity = thinking = mind I = ? perhaps indiv...

Re: What gets enlightened

Ananda So could it be said that the Self produces a body of ignorance in order to know itself? Why not produce a body of love instead of a body of ignorance if Self is doing it to know itself. Why is unhappiness and the other conditions of ego necessary if it is all for the purpose of that which is ...

Re: Some comedy for the tensed users in the forum :)

That was stress relieving. It is a relevant paradox, kind of like hell for the advaitist's ignorance. Thankfully I am not an advaitist.

What gets enlightened

It is said that there is no I in the state of being.

And yet what gets enlightened? .....Is it 'I' that just speeds up and gets lighter and moves closer to unknowable me and further from my self.

Or is it my self that becomes enlightened.

Re: can we ever fully know....

In the abstract 'mind' there is the possibility of self arising. My self is something and I can observe it from a distance. Now distance is very important here because it gives distinction and subsequent knowing. So all information I absorb is knowing all thought is knowing, there is a distance, I c...

Re: Insight and Creativty

The intelligence penetrated down through the subconsciousness into the unconscious and then we get a set back where we feel the past in us dragging us back into thought and emotion. That is the living past in us, the sum of our unconsciousness to date, our self, that lives in the subconscious. The t...

Re: How does subjective experience come about?

How does subjective experience come about? I stop being unconscious. Thinking stops and I see this existence through my body. I see and feel the sensation of now. I come to my senses. The nothing within is reflected by space without, the mind sits between and separates inner from outer with a contin...

Re: its all just unfolding

Should I just surrender?........That, surrender, is the key to being now. Coming to your senses and inner sensation leads to wellbeing and increased intelligence. We are all born and become a self which is an emotional body identified with 'I' . That needs it's fill of experience but eventually inte...

Re: How'd Tolle find out about inner body? Original sources?

Eckhart's teaching is very similar to Barry Long's. Barry also acknowledged the influence of J Krishnamurti and attributed the practicality of his teaching to him. You probably know that Eckhart attended Barry's meetings in the 80's for several years and is on record as saying he 'loved Barry's teac...

Re: Am i in need of a break from this?

For me, the bottom line is: I AM ADDICTED TO MY UNHAPPINESS!!! I think you have nailed the human condition there. I have found it very helpful to have developed a sense of 'self' and by self I mean ego but I call it self as it is what I am, my self or person. Ego is a bit of a philosophical term an...

Re: And what about sex?

Now really everybody! No one has mentioned Love! The most valuable self knowledge is the knowledge of what is sex and what is love . As Barry Long has gone into to this fully I recommend these articles for starters: http://www.barrylong.org/statements/purposelove.shtml http://www.barrylong.org/state...

Re: dissolving the past

you say all this past energy is manifestering in the chest region.. is this why i cant feel the inner body there ? Yes self or past hides behind unopened doors. You could try some exagerated breathing into the upper chest till you get a good sensaton there and then work out or in from that till you...
