Re: How to UNLEARN Enlightenment?

Enlightenment is itself an unlearning. To unlearn an unlearning is a double negative, which would be a learning. So to unlearn enlightenment is to re-identify with a mistaken identity, to identify with the fictional sense of self. To unlearn enlightenment is to become unconscious. We do it all the t...

“If you can be absolutely comfortable with not knowing who you are, then what’s left is who you are – the Being behind the human, a field of pure potentiality rather than something that is already defined. Give up defining yourself – to yourself and others. You won’t die. You will come to life.” ~ E...

David, I was wondering what happened to other people in the forum. Thanks for your post, I love that Zen quote
No idea what happened to everybody. I just sort of saunter in from time to time and see if there is something I can add that might be worth the while.

Re: Convincing never works

I still love to read both books every once and a while, but now instead reading them I listen to Eckhart narrate them. For some reason I find his voice to be very soothing, and of cause the words are divine, and the pauses eternal. :)

Sometimes I tend to believe that the main reason for human existence, is to foster emotional maturity.

Re: What is the difference between pain versus suffering?

I'd answer it in a very similar way.

Pain is an actual symptom of injury, either physical or emotional.

Suffering is a perceived symptom of injury, a personalization or obsession.

Re: Convincing never works

I read "The Power of Now" many years ago and got very little out of it. I didn't even remember reading it. A few years later, I read it again and was blown away.

People are ready when they are ready, and there is not a lot we can do about that.

Re: One of the biggest traps

The simplicity of presence, is how I experience "enlightenment". I might even describe it as completely and refreshingly mundane.

Re: One of the biggest traps

Enlightenment is what we seek until we realize that there is no enlightenment, having realized that, we are liberated.

And then, we chop wood and fetch water.

Re: Convincing never works

We can't make/force someone to be more conscious, they have to do that themselves. We can only help people that want to be helped, and often we do this indirectly, by casually mentioning something that may resonate or simply leading by example, and occasionally we might find an opportunity where we ...

Re: Not Reacting to Insults

I don't react to insults. I never find someones opinion of me to be insulting. I see peoples opinions as their own, not mine, none of my business, nothing I need to deal with. If they have some constructive criticism, then ok fine, that's useful, but they can keep their unsolicited character diagnos...

Re: Why does conformity make people seem so fake?

I definitely have an aversion to conformity. Ever since I was a young child, I have always been defiant. This defiance used to get me into trouble when I was young, impetuous and rebellious, but now that I'm older and wiser this defiance is much more inconspicuous and tempered, except for when I get...

Re: Thoughts on thoughts

Eckhart says that concepts or viewpoints are just a useless bundle of thoughts. Isn't his books just a bundle of thoughts? What if your viewpoints lead you to stillness? Yes, Eckhart's book is just a bundle of thoughts, thoughts which he refers to as pointers. A map and road signs will help get us ...

Re: Is it okay to masturbate?

Eckhart doesn't specifically mention masturbation, but he does say that whatever you do, do it consciously.

So I say, enjoy your masturbation, just be present while you do it. :D

(Conscious doing = presence)
