Re: how to watch the thinker?

All I can tell you is what I do - for now. My method may change so this is what I do these days. I sit in meditation or in just about any situation, active or inactive. I focus in on what I am thinking by asking my self "what am I thinking about right now?" Sometimes just asking causes my mind to st...

Re: Emotions: good & bad

Good evening all, I asked my self about a context of this part of "the power of now" Emotions, on the other hand, being part of the dualistic mind, are subject to the law of opposites. This simply means that you cannot have good without bad. how can we see the good in the bad ? ET is not saying the...

Re: How come some unconcious people can be happy?

In my environment I know there are a lot of people who are not into spirituality or presence at all. They are pretty much just taken up by their minds, life and social life. But they seem just happy. Very egoic as in, looking for social approval, playing the game, seeing flaws in others, gossipping...

Re: Has your happiness improved since discovering Tolle?

Hughesa: your story sounds exaclty like my story was when I got so bad that I had to go for help in 12 step support groups and personal therapy. In the beginning, my issues and distrubed feelings got WORSE, but, since I was determined to get better or die, I persisted and hung in through the bad tim...

EGO - friend or foe?

I see in these forums a tendency to blame everything that's not right on the EGO and it seems to me that many ppl have misunderstood ET's "ego" teachings and have made the ego a scapegoat and a horrible ENEMY. To me, this is a recipe for permanent failure so long as we can excuse all of our actions ...

Re: How do I "face" inner negativity?

[quote="Spectrum"]Hi. I have heard that sometimes, the way to overcome my own inner negativity is to "face" it. As far as I understand, by facing my own grudges and negative beliefs, it should be possible to dissolve them. I have not been able to figure out how to actually do this. >>> Various forms...

Re: Being proactive: People and relationships

I'd consider seeing a therapist to help you figure out what you are AFRAID of! Your whole post is screaming: I'M AFRAID, I'M AFRAID, I'M AFRAID!
good luck getting out from under your fears,

Re: The seducive ego

I have pretty much given up blaming and accusing SCAPE GOATS, like the Devil and the Ego for my own behavior and thinking/beliefs, etc. In therapy, I was taught to take responsibility for my own actions and thoughts and believe that applies to ET's teachings as well. There are times when I BECOME an...

Re: Comfort zone

The other day, I was my real self for a while and during that reality, I had a lot of guts and integrity that I rarely have as a little egoic person so I'd say our "comfort zone" expands dramatically when, as our biggest and realest self, there is no or little fear, shame, guilt, humiliation, trauma...

Re: So ANGRY right now!

I'm on a similar journey to Jim - resolving childhood hurts which are the root of the 'dragging back into darkness'. Also suffering from a lot of ancient anger surfacing - it can be hard to vent this when the original cause was decades ago and it very is corrosive to hold it. I learned in therapy t...

Re: Can bad parenting and early childhood trauma be a blessi

Well yes, no parents are perfect. Not to be confrontive here but, nobody is "perfect", IMO - but what does that explain or excuse? I don't believe parents or anybody else are supposed to be totally "perfect" nor are they totally "imperfect" - I'll accept ADEQUATE, if it's possible. re: The intentio...

Re: When watching the mind

Does "knowing" it is ego help with the dissolving of ego.. as I tend to watch my mind and get lost in the stream of crazy thoughts. I can only share with you what I do or know, so far. This morning, I sat and invited my little mind to go ahead and run amuck or do whatever it does while I watched it...

Re: Why do I fear loss?

Most if not all of my earliest fears came from bad/inadequate parenting! It took a lot of work and examination to realize how seriously my ignorant parents damaged me back when I had a lot of trust, innocence and NO-FEAR of "losses". This was during intense therapy which led to my emotional Recovery...

Re: Who am I?

I just read ET's the power of now. If I am not my mind, and I am not my phycial body (form), then who am I? In 12 step sharing meetings, I learned to speak for and about my self and not offer lectures or 3rd party commentaries so...... When I explore the question "who am I?", I often find that I am...
