Re: Daily practice

I generally have one longish session of meditation and several short "reminders" during the day when I stop the noise and re-connect to my center. As far as remaining in deep presence 24/7 I love this quote from Krishnamurti: Don't be aware all the time! Just be aware in little bits. Please, there ...

Re: Daily practice

Trying to stay present all the time didn't work for me either, in fact, it was maddening. I do what you do, but I also practice inquiry like what Byron Katie and Adyashanti talk about.

Re: Suicide vs Egocide

I guess I'm just wanting to voice my fears about what it means when people throw it out there as a solution. It is a solution for some, I don't understand what your issue is with it? Sorry, if you didn't benefit from it, but it can be beneficial. I know, I had therapy about 5 years ago and it helpe...

Re: Suicide vs Egocide

It always discourages me when people recommend therapy. It makes me feel like I'll never improve unless I go and see someone, and that's never a good feeling. I went to see a therapist last year for a few months and she said that some patients expect to be healed, but the reality is that their the o...

Re: Help for an emotionally unbalanced person

When I was young I was diagnosed with a handful of disabilities, and as an adult I've often been left confused and unsure of what it means. The western world seems to treat mental disabilities as disease, it's a different wiring in the brain than everyone else, nothing you can do about it. I grew up...

Re: Presence with family members.

My parents were never abusive, but they themselves had been abused, and so that made its way into the family, especially with my dad. When they bring up my childhood I feel angry and ashamed, they've said things like "When you were a kid, you were a real handful." And that makes me want to put my fi...

Re: Presence with family members.

I find that presence when around family members is difficult, it's almost like I wear a different mask around each of them; my brother, my mom, my dad. I feel like a caricature when around my brother, my dad I'm not really sure if there's much going on, but with my mom I feel a strong sense of disgu...

Re: we are connected

Adyashanti warns against "Abdicating your authority", or in other words, putting your life in the hands of someone, or something else. When people talk about god having a plan for them, or putting something in their path, that is what comes to mind. But I'm not sure what the context of this topic is...

Re: The desire to be appreciated by other people my age

The posts in this thread sum up exactly how I feel. I've been reading some of Byron Katie's stuff recently, and she talked about going out with friends, and just sitting, not saying anything, but just listening to them, and responding when addressed. When I'm with friends, I tend to talk a lot. What...

Re: I've discovered a very painful belief in me

I am familiar with this type of suffering, I'm also in my 20s, I've also been single since the day I was born and I am sure that there are plenty of people like us. None of us are weird, forget about what everyone else who has been brainwashed by society expects of you. I don't like beliefs that de...

I've discovered a very painful belief in me

I've been single my whole life and as I grow older ( I'm 26 ) I've felt a growing sense of despair. I feel like no one will like me because I lack experience, or they'll find me strange and wonder what's wrong with me for being single for so long. If it was going to happen, it would have already, it...

The 4th dimension

I watched an excerpt from The Cosmos with Carl Sagan, and he explained the fourth dimension using "flat land". In flat land, the creatures are basic shapes, they are completely flat, the Z axis does not exist for them, and so when a creature from the third dimension visits flat land, only a slice of...

Re: Dealing with people who try to belittle you

If I examine the emotions that arise, I can see that maybe the reason I get so upset is that I truly do believe that I am inadequate and incapable of doing things Healthy self examination. Internally I can do the work, but there is certainly a learning curve that comes with it. In the beginning I f...

Re: Dealing with people who try to belittle you

The problem for me is that I don't know how to physically react to the person. Someone at work criticized the thoroughness of my cleaning and phrased it rather bluntly. If I examine the emotions that arise, I can see that maybe the reason I get so upset is that I truly do believe that I am inadequat...

Re: If I don't have to "fix", then what happens?

Envision a wind-up toy, if you keep winding it, it keeps dancing, lets say this is you. Every thought-formation reacted towards maintains tension in the spring in this toy, your continuously getting wound up, at times very tight. Observing thought-formations(or as Eckhart calls them individual ener...
