Re: Campfire tales: What is the purpose of a human life?

Not so much designer as design. Is there a "point" to reality? A task, goal, mission? Or are all of these tropes in the story, fairy tales to make the emptiness feel more meaningful, the mundane feel heroic? I don't know. I don't know either. Looking at reality as a whole, at least what we know and...

Re: Campfire tales: What is the purpose of a human life?

That we tend to frame what we experience in stories seems clear. I agree, and feel there is more to it. We don't just frame our real world experience in story form, our real world experience is increasingly directed towards taking us deeper in to the story realm. We aren't emerging from story as th...

Re: Campfire tales: What is the purpose of a human life?

I must admit to being obsessed with this topic. That obsession blinds me a bit as to how relevant what we are discussing now is to the question of a purpose to life, so somebody please ban me if I hijack the thread. :-) My story is that I've spent the last twenty years very engaged in two very diffe...

Re: Campfire tales: What is the purpose of a human life?

Yes, just as every thought is real, every vision, feeling, hallucination, internal voice. Real to the experiencer, both as quale and brain pattern ... but not to anyone/anything else. This conversation is entirely symbolic, and yet it's still experienced as real by all observers. In this environmen...

Re: Campfire tales: What is the purpose of a human life?

This is what the human mind does: It creates stories and inhabits them, as if they were the real things instead of fiction. Heck, most of the time we're not even aware that we're living in our DIY movies. It's interesting to reflect that the stories actually are real. Not the content of the stories...

Re: Did you not realize this would happen?

You can't live a human life constantly apart from experience, especially if you're engaged in life/relationships/etc. Meaning, you're going to get emotionally involved with life! It's simply a matter of taking those mindful moments of stepping back here and there and checking in with yourself, to s...

Re: Campfire tales: What is the purpose of a human life?

I think Ashley is on to something with their musings.... What is the purpose of life? For humans, it may be to complete a journey from the real world in to the symbolic realm of our imaginations. Consider some cave men sitting around the campfire thousands of years ago. Someone is telling a story th...

Re: Did you not realize this would happen?

Also, how does one 'love what is', while being genuine to expressed emotion? Great question. By loving the expressed emotion. Are we pissed off that there is now broken glass all over the floor? Ok, be genuinely pissed off, allow the melodrama to be too. It's probably not going to work to try to be...

Re: GIRLS

You can start to come across as desperate and needy to women which is not exactly overly appealing either. He is desperate and needy, by his own description. I'm not suggesting drooling as a tactic :-) but I see no reason why he shouldn't be as honest with women he actually knows as he has been wit...

Great post Ashley. You've inspired some thoughts here which are even better than "the porpoise of life", as incredible as that may seem. :-) More on this later...

Re: GIRLS

I wouldn't listen to pick up artists. Most of them approach dating as a game as though picking up a girl is a prize. Agreed. Sort of. I agree with abandoning clever tactics, and I think that's what you mean too. On the other hand, men have been designed over millions of years of mammal genetic heri...

Re: Cultivating a taste for reality

I'm enjoying reading your posts Mr Bozo. His Most Bombastic Blabber Of Nerdy Words is enjoying your enjoyment, thank you. What we experience is a sense of separation - and this illusion occurs because the Universe presents itself as distinction, variation and differentiation at every turn. I agree ...

Re: at what point in human evolution did consciousness arise

Yes Jen, I can also see how consciousness can be related to energy. Both are quite mysterious, although we can observe and know quite a bit about them and their behavior, we really have no idea what they actually are. Consciousness is not really so mysterious. Thought is an inherently divisive info...

Re: What Is Enlightenment?

What Is Enlightenment? A fantasy. Technically, it is indeed likely that there are rare extraordinary people way out at the end of the psychological bell curve, just as there is Mozart in music, Einstein in science etc. However, you and I will never be Mozart no matter how many hours we play the pia...

Re: HH Dalai Lama Downunder

This is why, for our own good and that of society we need to balance material progress with inner development. Material progress is a simple enough thing to understand. As with so many things, some is good, and too much or too little is not. The DL is quite sensible on such topics. Inner developmen...
