What is it to watch the watcher?

My thoughts are who I thought I was untill I began watching them. This then implies the existence of two components: my thoughts and the watcher. What is it to watch the watcher and is the method to do this the same as watching thoughts? This is unusual as the watcher is usually silent so there's no...

Re: Salutations and kindness...

Welcome, and thank you for sharing your experiences. How have things been unfolding for you since the experiences you described? Hello erict! Yes. Things have been tapering off for me. The small wakeful states are becoming less and I seem to be losing the inner depth and the dark periods. There's a...

Re: What do you think I experienced?

Yeah you're right, maybe thats why i previously didnt have the same results - because i had always been asking "who" rather than "what".. i suppose "what" is a little more open ended, whereas "who" implies some personality that must be hidden somewhere I've been stuck in that 'who am I' since I ent...

Re: Presence Often Feels Like Ignoring...

Eckhart makes it sound like being present with an unconscious person is the easiest thing in the world. I would really like to put him to the test in a real life scenario with an unconscious person and see how effective he is. I get the feeling he hasn't had much real experience talking to people; ...

Re: Presence Often Feels Like Ignoring...

Yes, the description of the witnessing is after-the-fact, and quite clumsy relative to what it's attempting to describe. It's not only sufficient to 'just watch', but really all the other interplay during those transactions is ultimately superfluous. In this there is a useful distinction between co...

Re: Presence Often Feels Like Ignoring...

But in witnessing the movement of my mind as it generated that expression of this perception, I'm conscious of how it's rooted in the specifics of my conditioning. And to cautiously distil your words, your sentence here then, suggests some degree of watching yourself from the objective of the aware...

Re: Presence Often Feels Like Ignoring...

Self-honesty is always ever it's own reward. As far as self-inquiry or a process of becoming conscious of the contents and dynamics of our own minds goes, ain't one greater. :D Yes, there is that. :D From an objective standpoint I find the workings of my own mind intriguing, however, I have come to...

It's called Being Human http://eckhart-tolle-forum.inner-growth.info/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=10594 That's a very interesting read although I haven't traversed its entirety. I'll pay further visits when I have more time. Having come across your reply, it prompted me to reread my post. I saw that there ...

Thank you Jukai. It's called Point Clear on the very South coast.

Presence Often Feels Like Ignoring...

When confronted with a human being whose emotional intelligence has been reduce to the rudimentary construct of plankton, (pain-body) being present with them often feels like ignoring. Additionally, from this I feel I have to give some prompt that indicates I'm listening so I gently nod my head at t...

Re: Eckhart's knowledge of gradual awakening...

Onceler, I'm trying to send you a private message but its not going through. Is the message showing up in the Outbox and staying there ? If so, that simply means that the recipient has not read it yet and you're fine (it will show as sent when the recipient reads it). It is a bit confusing, I know....

Re: Eckhart's knowledge of gradual awakening...

It’s interesting, I too have tremendous respect for Tolle, but at some point I had to walk away from his teachings and examine my core beliefs about enlightenment and awakening. This quitting of the spiritual search, after roughly 30 years, was the most life altering, profound thing I have done. It...

That's quite creatively amusing!

Without the risk of sounding all Freudian, what does this symbolism of the "finish line" represent?

You sound like a fartologist or fartographer. :P Fartologist and fartographer! Like that! If I was to pursue it with some measure of seriousness, I would no doubt have to subject my olfactory to the farts of other people.  BTW, you could suggest to Eckhart that farts can be a good portal...
