Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
Staying in the NOW may be a fine experience and help free you from mental torture. But Parsons is saying that being present in the NOW has nothing to do with enlightenment. You can daydream and still be enlightened.

Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
The best teachers destroy the student. There is no student left to receive the teaching. Until such time that we are destroyed, it is best to speak of the incomplete creation that we are. Until such time that we are in non-duality, it is okay to be in duality and use it to reach non-duality. Even P...

Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
I want to make clear that I am not attacking Eckhart, but simply exploring truth. It seems a few people have confused Eckhart's form with truth, but that is their business. Thanks for your comment Signclone, and I think you're right. Eckhart was speaking to people on a level they could relate to, wh...

Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
In one of his talks, Eckhart brings up the question: Is the world of form an illusion? The audience is waiting for an answer and he pauses and says "leave it", and jokes "you were waiting for an answer". He is saying, don't try to figure it out, just accept what is appearing now. He goes on to say ...

Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
Now, as to choice. Descartes said, wrongly, "cogito ergo sum" or "I think, therefore I am." But free will and the opportunity to choose does define us. Parsons chose to write those words. You and I choose to read them. Oprah chose to wear a green dress last Tuesday. I could choose to punch Parsons....

Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
Hi James. My own experience has validated what Tony Parsons' say's to be true. There is only ever this, whether it be daydreaming or 'staying present'. Even not being present can only arise in your own presence.

Re: Eckhart teaches dualism
I'll explain as best as I can. Sighclone that sentence means there is not seperate a 'I'. It is not located in the body or anywhere else. Therefore if there is not an individual 'I' in the body, the body's actions must be automatic(or spontaneous). This means there is no one inside the body to choos...

Eckhart teaches dualism
The following is an excerpt from Tony Parsons book called 'As it is'. Tony, traditional teachers tell us that one of the barriers to awareness is the runaway mind going into the past and into the future. Eckhart Tolle, for example. I think thats most peoples experience, but you don't talk about that...

Re: I've never had a girlfriend and am still a virgin...
I'm suprised that virtually nobody offered advice on how to help James with his woman problems. Staying present won't put food in your belly, and simply staying present won't earn you a girlfriend either. I think a few people on this forum are becoming narrow minded.

Hahaha. He can't stand listening to peoples stories? I guess his state of consciousness is now above the petty majority. I don't think you should fall into the trap of seeing yourself asabove petty human tendencies now that you're more present. On an ultimate level yes, nothing matters. But in our r...

Re: Presence does not lead to enlightenment
Hi everyone, I can't believe this thread is still going. What more is there to say?! Well I would like to add a final word. Although everything happens in the now, including enlightenment, Roger was trying to say that paying attention to the now won't speed anything up. This is because the apple can...

Re: Help stop my shakes
Hi Weichen, I guess the shakes happen because I've received a lot of negative feedback from other people in the past, so when i'm around other people my mind doesn't want to be attacked by the same negative judgements again and tenses up. And shaking occurs. I've been doing meditation since tuesday ...

Re: Not sure what to think re: very high prices for Tolle events
Thats what I mean Darren! Her presence and understanding is just as beautiful and clear, yet she's cost effective. Even though people say Eckhart is no better than themselves, they still treat him like a superstar. If you do go and visit him, you should at least be able to shake his hand(and possibl...
