Re: The threatening nature of the Collective Ego

I find that the threatening nature can be due to our own identifications with the Collective Ego. I think that I easily identify with a Libertarian/individualist kind of collective ego. So I find in myself that I dont approve of any kind of coercion for non-defensive purposes, or passing judgment on...

Surrendering to the present "isness" feels defeatist

I was wondering how other people handle the feeling of surrender being defeatist. Since it feels like saying yes to the isness of the moment is saying no to any ideals. Since thoughts can zoom into my head, and I feel so easily stuck getting preoccupied with certain contents of the present, such as ...

Re: The threatening nature of the Collective Ego

I had an interesting insight about how the Individual Ego has a tendency to victimize itself and see the Collective Ego as the oppressor. On the other hand, I have found that the Individual Ego often scoffs at the Collective Egos victimization. I know I am bad about this. For example, I find that I ...

Re: How can I handle unwanted thoughts about metaphysics

What is the best way to handle thoughts, as it seems like repression does not work real well. Yet they can pop up whether I want them there or not.

Re: Religious vs Secular and Conservative vs liberal

I find that we easily fall into the mindset that Absolutism is the cause and solution to our problems. Plus, there is always that looming fear of Relativism. I usually compare this to the Libertarian Politics where they believe in some rule of law in order to ensure liberty. This usually goes that w...

Re: How can I handle unwanted thoughts about metaphysics

This reminds me of how the Ego sees absolutes. I find that the Ego is terrified of absolute truth, enrages of absolute Goodness, and doesnt believe in absolute beauty. I guess thats where I see in my own ego.

How can I handle unwanted thoughts about metaphysics

This had bothered me at one point, several years back, when it came to those deep cosmic questions, such as Eternity, Infinity, substance, Space, Time, Spirit and matter. I remember I had an epiphany one day that these deep matters could not be understood with the mind, or be imagined. But I recall ...

Religious vs Secular and Conservative vs liberal

I have noticed that in these different groups, there is a lot of back and fourth fighting, where each side thinks that they are more clear headed, non-biased, and right, while the other is brainwashed, biased and wrong. Whether its Religious institutions accusing universities of indoctrinating stude...

Re: Making Decisions without resorting to Egoism

Great question J Can you see the way you widened your perspective on your own question after asking it? That's kind of it (for me) - looking at the wider 'environment' curiously, discerningly, and honestly. In totality no thing is right, or wrong. There is right for me in this moment - in the next ...

Re: How do you coexist with the Ego while not being identifi

I think I get too many paradoxes stuck in my head. Yet it seems like its nothing more than mental content, and the mind attempting to understand the big picture. The mind won't rest until you do understand the big picture...or at least mine didnt. You need to understand what the person you appear t...

Re: How do you coexist with the Ego while not being identifi

You don't have to imagine it JTL. You can't imagine it. But you are living it. You literally are it. It's the ground of everything you've experienced through the filter of space/time/matter. Your very nature is beyond time. Gently pay attention to your present moment experience in the body and this...

Making Decisions without resorting to Egoism

How do I make decisions without being caught up into judgment or overthinking? Sometimes we can overthink our decisions, like choosing a major to study, what kind of job to look for, or where to go on Vacation. Other times, a choice involves changing undesirable situations, like a bad job, an abusiv...

Re: How do you coexist with the Ego while not being identifi

I think it can be hard for me to disidentify with thoughts and ideas about Spacetime. In the Ego consciousness, it seems like it is ultimately the reality. It seems like it is impossible to imagine anything not bound by spacetime. For me, its easy to imagine other alternatives, like different laws o...

Re: How do you coexist with the Ego while not being identifi

I think it may have been Meister Eckhart who stated much of Spirituality is about unlearning. Frankly I could not agree more. It seems like we can too easily get stuck in needing to label, explain, or analyze everything to death. This reminded me of an episode of the Twilight Zone known as "Little G...

What is enlightenment like? or what is it not?

I have been thinking it maybe better to ask about enlightenment in relation to what it is not. It seems like the mind wants to define enlightenment as either A) A higher level of knowledge, or B) Nothingness. Yet these seem to be mere mental constructs.
