Mantras as Thought Suppression

I think mantras are thought suppression. I think they send a message to the subconscious that you're afraid to welcome thoughts not of your choosing. I think it leads to the notorious positive feedback loop. I think mindfulness meditation is more effective.

What do you think?

I don't know, because my method was always Self inquiry from the very beginning. Personally, mantra's are a waste of time for me. Yes, they are a form of Bhakti yoga (worship), but that was never my thing. If it's not your thing either, just don't do them, no harm or foul. There is no "need" to do them, unless you feel compelled to.
Take what you like and leave the rest.
