True Freedom, Liberation and Enjoyment

A common misconception about enlightenment is that, you are awareness and, therefore, your person is no longer effected by the world and the objects that appear in it. This leads to a conflict as your knowledge of yourself as awareness does not conform with your experience as the person. This leads to what I call, the "spiritual ego" where, many people seek to be alone, isolated, refuse to do anything for the hope that the experience of bliss, happiness and pleasure continues infinitely. Similarly, others may overindulging in doing certain behaviors and actions to produce the same feelings, confusing true enlightenment with experience.

To be clear, it is not that you cannot do all that and still be enlightened, provided you know that you are awareness and that experience does not affect you. However, the misconception that you would no longer have the variety of experiences life has to offer is a thought based on an error that your person/ego would cease to exist upon enlightenment. (This thought was explored extensively in my thread Ego Is Our Problem and Salvation! found here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13890).

In summary, upon enlightenment, you would continue to like/dislike the things that you always liked/disliked to do before you are enlightened (although these could also change in time). Therefore, do them or not , it is your choice. There is no right or wrong choice here from the level of awareness. You would always be awareness irrespective of the nature of experiences, thoughts and feelings you may have at any given time. This is true freedom. This is true liberation. This is true enjoyment.
