Maintaining awareness throughout the day

Post by joe » Sun Jul 08, 2018 10:27 pm

I have been trying to follow my breath and have a question: do you stop doing that when you are thinking about something or responding to something external? Are you supposed to "multi-task" at that point?

Following the breath is simply a place to put attention on when thought stream has taken you on a mental trip. It's those mental trips into the future or past that people get caught up and lost in that keep attention away from presence. If there is a situation that needs thinking then allow mind/intellect do its job. Once that has been attended to then return to following the breath.
