A Noisy Squirrel Cage

Post by phil » Fri Dec 30, 2005 2:47 am

An internet discussion board, about silence. Hmm.

Navigating this humorously ironic concept seems to require a
bit of creativity. Here's one attempt at that.

As most of you know, we raise squirrels for a hobby. They
are wonderful creatures. Living with a wild critter is
a great spiritual portal if nature is one of your gurus.

But squirrels are just too enthusiasticly rowdy to allow
them to run loose in your house like you would a regular
pet. They would chew the place up in no time, and then you'd
no longer find them charming.

So, until it's time for their release, our squirrels spend
most of their time with us in an 8 foot cube squirrel cage
on our back porch. That's their place where they can
express their squirrely natures, without fear of calamity.

After reflecting on our dialogue, I've had the inspiration
to build myself a squirrel cage here on the forum.

A little noisy corner where I can express my enthusiastic
squirrely nature, and relentlessly chew on stuff, without
interfering with those of you who would like to express your
own unique nature, without having it chewed on.

I'd love to see this forum grow, and for that to happen
readers who are contemplating a contribution should feel
they can safely make the leap from lurking without then
finding themselves in the middle of a rowdy game of idea
tennis.

For those who enjoy exploring the frontiers of paradigm
prairies, and watching the mind stuff matter collide, we
squirrels are a friendly bunch, and love to have visitors to
the squirrel cage anytime.

The cage belongs to any who enter, and there are no rules
beyond the guidelines provided by the moderator, and your
understanding that squirrels reside within.

If you're worried that your comments may not be enlightened
enough for this board, this thread could be a good place to
add them. Noise is spoken here.

If you'd like to enter the cage and tell us what's wrong
with chewing, that'd be great. We can chew on that!
All other subjects welcome as well.

What truly inspires me about squirrels is their total
dedication to being squirrels.

They aren't perfect. What creature is?

Squirrels can't fly, or do math, or play the trombone, or
stop chewing on stuff. They don't have time to worry, they
are too busy being the form they are.

Squirrels have one little part to play in the giant
orchestra of nature, and they play their one little unique
part with every cell of their little bodies, making a
perfect contribution to a much larger symphony.

I love them for that, and accept them as my gurus.

Let the chewing begin.

As planned, Lisa wins! :-)

Thanks for being the first visitor to the squirrel cage Claudia!

Please allow me to present you with this award from the Ted Nugent Appreciation Society. :-)

Various outrageous pronouncements are being marinated in a broth of silence, and will soon be burped upon the world.

*offers Phil some Beano* for his verbal burpage.

Justphil, I think you should offer some squirrelly pictures to cuteoverload.com.

This is a site with pictures of animals "so cute you have to gouge your eyes out", as the moderator so colorfully puts it. Guaranteed to put you in a diabetic coma, but in a good way.

Yours in maple syrupy goodness,
Claudia

PS...HAPPY NOW YEAR!! :D

Wow, what a great web site. I've been building sites for 10 years, and never had a site idea 5% as good as this one. I'm awed. I will have to reach deep for a contribution.

Claudia, you in your simple cuteness are the perfect complement to what may unfold here in the squirrel cage. Please hang around and keep things sane.

While we're on the subject of wholesome entertainment, and while I happen to be listening to their New Years Eve show on the radio, here's a link in appreciation of A Prairie Home Companion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Prairie_Home_Companion

They appear to be having an extended show tonite on New Years Eve.

Garrison Keiler, the host of this radio show, perfectly manifests the expression, "It's hip to be square". Ya sure!

Great stuff, especially if you've become weary of the hip cynical style of entertainment and humor that is so popular these days.

Okay friend. I dig it. Just one wee problem.

What about us Hawks?

We too have our nitch in nature.

And cages- Oh cages, are not for us.

But, as you happen to be my favorite squirrely friend,

and from my heart, you know I mean this,

I am sorry for not letting you be who you are.

And for trying to tear you from limb to limb!

Blame it on the hawk in me! We see well, but we're kinda rough on little, furry things.

The Power of Now is about accepting this moment, this Now, all there ever is, and it is my teaching. And something about you just makes me go Berserk! (See Billy Jack.) This just means that you are a wonderful teacher for me, and instead of fighting it, you, I completely welcome you.

And if my talons start to grab, please remind me!

Please forgive me.

But do remember, I am a hungry bird.

Love,
Lisa- the raptor!

Happy, Happy New Year to All!
And to all a Good Waking!

God Bless

Welcome to the squirrel cage Lisaraptor!

I apologize, and thank you, as well.

Our exchange has taught me there are aspects of my/our posting style that don't belong in every thread of a silence oriented forum. We live, we learn.

I suggest we chase each other in to the squirrel cage when we want to arm wrestle. That will make it easy for others to avoid our SQUAWKING if that is their wish.

I love how open, spontaneous and brave your posts are.

Until the day when ego is no longer an issue, I like the idea of keeping it out in the open where we can see it. It takes courage to do that publicly, and I applaud you for your courage, and hope we'll both continue to help each other learn that process.

As you've seen, I like to explore the boudaries of whatever cage I'm in. If nobody challenges me back, I'll get bored and learn nothing. When I'm in nature I reach out for boredom and lack of learning, but not here.

Part of "who you are" is to challenge me back. So do it!

I suggest we adjust the balance a bit towards playfulness.

The reality is, you didn't choose your personality, and I didn't choose mine. Lots of genetics and other factors beyond our control at play.

And I'm not going to change you, or you me.

But just as One playfully pretends it is many, we can pretend and play too.

OK. So now I will retire to my nest to see what kind of banal proclamation I can burp up for us to chew on.

If you think of one first, let's hear it!

PLEASE NOTE: New Dress Code Policy

In order to prevent an outbreak of EES (Exploding Ego Syndrome) new health regulations now require all posters to the Squirrel Cage to imagine themselves clad in ridiculous attire suitable for the occasion.

Although the dress code is flexible, the model below illustrates the standard expected of all participants.

I know this is a boy's costume but I felt like putting it on for Now Years Day. I don't want the cage dimensions messing with my feathers tho. It's a rental.

"I feel pretty...oh so pretty...I feel pretty and witty and gay. And I pity any girl who isn't me today!"

Blam!

Aw, man. My ego just exploded, @%#! feathers everywhere!
