Hey guys,

I just wanted to pass the word along. Sometimes meditating in silence can be a bit dreary and even though silence is helpful, Eckhart says that it isn't 100% necessary for presence. I have found a really cool internet station called Nirvana Radio that has 24/7 meditation ambience so if anyone is interested go to and type in Nirvana Radio. You will need winamp to play it, which you can get at or maybe windows media player will work not sure i use winamp. Anyway enjoy.

EDIT: I also found a Silent Interval meditation bell with various times at

Ambient noise [or music] while meditating is like the old "keep your eyes open or closed while meditating" thing... It's a matter of going with what works for ya.

I have found that I prefer ambient noise because it defines the silence so well.

I am not sure whether it is available on radio or podcast, but Jonathan Goldman's ambient music is just awesome for this. Here's a link which has a sample of his work:

Here are some other ways to practice meditation for those who are unable to sit in silence:

- Exercise real hard (not so you hurt yourself, but with awareness of your limits, and with a long-distance runner's approach instead of a sprinter's). When you are working out and each day are going a little bit further beyond your previous limits, you see the marvel of the mind, spirit and body working together. And usually when is intensely involved in exercise, one cannot think too much.

- Flow, while on a swim, on a gentle walk, while washing dishes, or while typing these letters on a keyboard. Flow is simply enjoying floating as if you are a feather being carried by the breeze, even as your hands are active in some activity.

- Do anything that brings you to a state of Love, Grace or Happiness. It could be making love with someone you are in love with. Or playing with your pets. Or just looking at the amazing shape of clouds as they float by.

- Dwell on the life story of someone you deeply love and admire, be it through a book, movie or other means, preferably away from the Internet. Certain types of movies can be an excellent portal into the Now, and into the Beauty/Love that is immanent in all of Life.

- Volunteer. Save someone's life or at least enhance it in some small way. When one is working on the larger good, one's small story rarely comes to the forefront of one's mind. You will be so caught up in the LOVE of sharing and creating, you will have no idea of who you are and what your thoughts might have been.

- Dance, without any sense of formality or how it should be. Just dance.

- Sit by a river or by the ocean, if either is possible.

- Be out of doors. Be in nature.

Wonderful suggestions! I should like to try them all!

For many years I could not sit still in meditation no matter how hard I try. A teacher suggested I try walking medition. I was very successful with it and it was the gateway that allowed me to discover seated, still meditation. Often we miss that movement can be a vital gateway to presence. Sometimes it can be a quicker gateway than traditional methods.
