Fear

Post by kiki » Sat Jul 22, 2006 12:33 am

This thought just came to me while reading about fear in an entirely different kind of discussion board:

Fear is the footprint left in the mind by the imaginary me.

I invite you to submit your own insight into what "fear" is.

question "what fear is" -- I try to avoid this question (maybe for life)
questin "what I want fear to be" -- hmm, a little better, but still don't want to answer it.

question "what should I do with fear"
Answer: I want fear to be noticed when it appears in my consciousness
I want to embrace it and then let it go. If the same fear comes again, I will embrace it again, and then let it go again. When fear (or other emotions) are let go after embracing, I return to my home (peace)

That can be true, if you leave the footprint there, but i get what you mean :).
My interpretation of fear is : If you resist a certain thought/emotion that a certain situation creates, you will then fear that situation because it makes you feel a certain way.
If you let yourself feel that way when you are faced with that same situation, & at the same time un-identifying with the thoughts/emotions, a ray of consciousnesness shall shine apon & banish resistance & fear with ease.
Resistance creates fear & vise versa etc. etc. etc.
If you dis-identify, you have nothing to fear, because it isn't your fear to fear.

what is fear?

Post by void » Sat Jul 22, 2006 11:27 am

fear is nothing when me and it are nose to nose
i stand up to fear, going toe to toe...
the bell rings and i come out swinging...
put fear on its back for the count of eight,
the referee stops the fight,
and when the smoke clears
im standing tall sticking my chest out
no fear at all...

Thank you. I won`t submit my own insight because I don`t have one. No inner knowledge on that. Maybe I`ll go there deeply.
The one thing I know for sure - fear is not a problem. There is lots of problematic energy and how to solve it - added to it, which is false.

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself". Fear is a phantom.

Fear is a very powerful ripple on the surface of being.

(there is nothing "personal" in it.)

FEAR is an instinctive protection mechanism that can be felt by most living things. Without fear, we can suppose that adaptation and survival would be less successful.

It logically follows that when the ego/mind projects thought into the future, it wants to avoid any risk of: 1) losing the acquired comfort, or 2) or not acquiring additionnal comfort.

So, as long as there is a desire to get more of 'this', or less of 'that' in TIME, there will be fear.

When the ego/mind is detached from desires (at peace with its current condition), then fear cannot exist, because there are no expectations, just acceptance of what IS.

Fear is the footprint left in the mind by the imaginary me.
The imaginary me is the cause, fear is the effect.

If you resist a certain thought/emotion that a certain situation creates, you will then fear that situation because it makes you feel a certain way.
Fear is resistance. (the opposite of acceptance)

What is the difference between powerful and unpowerful ripple?
A powerful ripple gets more attention.

The imaginary me is the cause, fear is the effect.
The "me" being imaginary reveals the fear to be imaginary as well. Consciousness shines on the footprint, dries it up, and the footprint blows away.

From the brilliant song by Ian Brown, F.E.A.R

For Everything A Reason

Forget Everything And Remember

What we must Know when confronted with fear.

And I also loved what...oh goodness..some women who I loved to read years ago said about it, and I do not have her book anymore, so I am paraphrasing:

"Fear is greedy: it wants you. When you see yourself succumbing to fear know that it is an entity with teeth. When you see it, look at it. Face it. You must tell it, " I know you are there and I know that you want me - but sorry, I am not feeding you today. I have better things to do; things that move me into light and love, and whilst I know you are there, I simply will not be your lunch. "

But if you dont do that, if you throw yourself at fear, it will consume you. It will take you up in razor teeth that are not retractable, and it will shake you like a puppy toy until you are shreds, never let you go.

Sounds like they're saying words."

We who are
your closest friends
feel the time
has come to tell you
that every Thursday
we have been meeting,
as a group,
to devise ways
to keep you
in perpetual uncertainty
frustration
discontent and
torture
by neither loving you
as much as you want
nor cutting you adrift.
Your analyst is
in on it,
plus your boyfriend
and your ex-husband;
and we have pledged
to disappoint you
as long as you need us.
In announcing our
association
we realize we have
placed in your hands
a possible antidote
against uncertainty
indeed against ourselves.
But since our Thursday nights
have brought us
to a community
of purpose
rare in itself
with you as
the natural center,
we feel hopeful you
will continue to make unreasonable
demands for affection
if not as a consequence
of your disastrous personality
then for the good of the collective.

as quoted by Anne Lamott discussing paranoia in Bird by Bird.
