I have always found this song to be amazing, even though it is by a relatively unknown band. It sounds eastern in way.

I think some of those of Eckharts favourites would be nice to use before sleeping, meditate on them.

Re: Music of "the other side"?
Thank you all for your music! I have no particular recommendations to make at this moment. But music
takes me out of moods which can be destructive and puts me in another place. It's like magic. Aromas can do the same.
It may be emotional or romantic or,more deeply, give me an overview of my folly in life. It may take me back to a childhood memory I haven't
thought of since the day. And it's so interesting that the same chord is struck by so many people by a certain song. It affirms the
common root we share, that we emanate from. Even single notes that resonate in our being.
Thank you all again. And nice to be here (first post).

Re: Music of "the other side"?
This is my favourite song of all time, very powerful
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnPzR1-Dp2c
This song is also amazing, especially after the half way point. Chouwa oto with reflection:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_dtrZXmfBQ
There are so many songs by Era that make me experience that feeling of the other side I think you're talking about. Here are some really good ones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SvxaNQ6d7M - Ameno, I love this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv4e8ox-kpg - Hymne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-WnjVUBDbs - Mass
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1snF4xMsI8E - Omen sore
These ones are by Enya, this one is my favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiBwr4U5 ... ure=relmfu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9flGqz3Jgw - The river sings, also very good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=686k9qcmzkw - Listen to the rain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nhWVi_5 ... re=related - This is Enigma, Celtic Dream
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk_sAHh9s08 - Return to innocence, Another by enigma, so good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5S8yU9e8Mg - Silence by Sarah McLachlan, the lyrics make me think of the process of awakening.
Another song that has really relevant lyrics is The world I know by Collective soul, also just a beautiful song -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7TLTjqUyog
I am very curious - when I first read this post I immediately thought of a few songs that fit the description and then I found out that they had already been posted by other people. This means that there's obviously something about these songs, a quality that they have, that isn't subjective because we all picked up on it. I wonder, what do you think this quality is exactly? Is it just that it produces a particular feeling in us? Do you think that the writers of these songs must have been in that state of "the other side" at some point in their lives to be able to come up with this music, or do you think anybody could write music with that quality if they're a good composer?
Or, do you think there's a quality of the other side at all, or is this just good music we all happen to like?

Strali,
Sound is a wave form. If you are trying to connect with the formless or stillness, you need to focus on the gaps between the sounds, which is where the wave has no form. The no sound.
This connection with the formless moment on the external world can be reflected in your inner state. This happens because the mind doesn't find the "silence" or "no sound" very interesting, it doesn't try an attach a memory or thought to it. To fully understand this you need to view the mind using Holonomic Brain Theory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holonomic_model.When you listen to a bird, there is a moment of pure listening before the mind says something about it. If you can catch yourself whenever something new enters your awareness, you can be conscious of that first moment. There it is: the stillness, the aliveness, the awareness itself. Eckhart Tolle
It operates on both external reflections and internal reflections. The external is the true reality of the present moment which has a very finite perspective. The internal reflection can add greater perspective, in the way of memories and thoughts.
In a real-life example some with musical ability or knowledge might rewrite the song into a new song. Someone with no musical ability may just listen to the song for its beauty.
However, if you focus on the formless... the mind is less likely to attach an inner wave reflection to the resultant wave form. Therefore, the resultant waveform is pure consciousness in the form of a Theta Brain Waves. Which has less frequency than a GAMMA brain wave forms (active thoughts). This is why people generally find themselves in a relax and calm state when listening to this kind of music.
These songs share similar musical characteristics which promote formless listening.... the prevailing Brain Waves are most likely Theta Brain Waves .
Wikipedia Definition:
Theta is the frequency range from 4 Hz to 7 Hz. Theta is seen normally in young children. It may be seen in drowsiness or arousal in older children and adults; it can also be seen in meditation. Excess theta for age represents abnormal activity. It can be seen as a focal disturbance in focal subcortical lesions; it can be seen in generalized distribution in diffuse disorder or metabolic encephalopathy or deep midline disorders or some instances of hydrocephalus. On the contrary this range has been associated with reports of relaxed, meditative, and creative states.

It's very very very nice indeed. Does the English narrative has any connection with Sanskrit lyrics?

Re: Music of "the other side"?
I've been listening to a lot of beautiful music for about 30 years now and none has affected me like this one chant.Seeker1977 wrote:It's very very very nice indeed. Does the English narrative has any connection with Sanskrit lyrics?
Here is what is in the cover page inside the CD I bought:
The "Lalitha Ashtotram" is a sacred Sanskrit text of the one hundred and eight names of Mother Divine. These words of praise were composed thousands of years ago.
The Divine as Mother is to be found in all the world's traditions and She is recognized for her qualities of unconditional love, protection and guidance. Just by listening to these sacred verses, patience, love, and compassion can be awakened.
In times of need, these special chants can console, comfort and energize us-and they reflect the grace, charm and beauty of Mother Divine.
